They're great. I'd rather not have waited two years for the last one, and frankly, I doubt the final issue will actually come out.

That was going to be a thing in collaboration with Adult Swim, but Valve's inability to adhere to deadlines ended up scrapping it.

The pilot episode became Expiration Date.
>>
>>389444320
Too bad the closest we'll get to that is an official SFM video once in a blue moon.
>>
fantastic, though they take far too long to get out.
>>
>>389444395
There's another one (4-5 min duration) planned for the Pyro Update.

We really exist only to suffer, right?
>>
>>389444482
It was definitely going to be a thing, but I think the actual reason they didn't go through with it was because of the voice actors. Soldier's VA had throat cancer or some shit and couldn't yell and heavy/demo was also out of commission for some reason I don't remember. Basically everything would have been the Scout and Spy show because they are the only two consistent VAs they have, outside of RAD likely costing a small fortune to do Medic.

This is not true. Heavy's voice actor was not out of commission, and voice actors was not the reason.

Oh man.
I always wondered why MvM very obviously used new VAs. That sucks that the show wasnt able to come to fruition though, it probably would have managed to stick a few more years onto TF2's lifespan. Not to mention I'd have watched the fuck out of it

They'd have to post-process Heavy's lines down a few octaves but otherwise you'd barely notice the difference.

Good lord, are the Valve staff literally paid to sit around the office and smoke weed instead of doing any work?
>>
>>389445275
Pretty much. Not even joking. Valve stopped making games because everything is so laid back that nothing gets done.

Work on what you like, when you like, with no management forcing you or other devs to work on a project or meet a deadline

Their problem is that they refuse to hire people.
Riot Games, which works on 1 game, has 1000 employees
Activision Blizzard, which works on 4 games, has 4000 employees
Ubisoft has around ~10,000 employees working on ~12 games

How many people does Valve hire for Steam and 3 games? 360. Ten times less than is normal for the industry.

There are only 15 people in total working on TF2 currently, and since release, Valve has never hired more than 20 people to work on TF2 at any one time.

15 people to service 1,700,000 TF2 players. It's a fucking joke.

>privately-owned company so don't have to answer to any shareholders
>flat hierarchy so don't have to answer to any bosses
>so much income from Steam and the slot machines built into their games that nobody has to care about making profits

I wonder when Gabe will stop pretending that he runs a business and will just openly admit that Valve is the world's richest hippie commune
>>
>>389445392
No matter what Valve's work culture is, or would be, they simply don't employ enough people to get content out the door on time and in working order. They hire 10x less people than is normal.

What features would you like to see in a third Team Fortress game? What can they even add to TF which couldn't just be done by updating TF2?
>>
>>389445584
Fuck off, we've done this before and you still just as wrong

It doesn't matter how many people work there. If you give 100 or 1000 people a job to fix a game but without any pressure to do ANY work, the game is not getting fixed because nobody has any goddamn reason to do their fucking jobs. 1000 people not meeting deadlines and not doing work are just as effective as 10 people not meeting deadlines and not doing work when it comes to the Shit Not Getting Done quota.
>>
>>389445775

It's an arena shooter that managed to live as long as it has because it had a good balance of game modes and classes, a TF3 will be to TF2 what CS:GO is to CS:S
>>
>>389445775
I've thought about a TF3 a lot and all it needs is better netcode to get me playing it. Copy/paste everything else from TF2 and I'm in.
>>
>>389445775
bring grenades back, leave out the fucking EMP though
>>
>>389445841
>we've done this before
Yeah I thought it was you
>If you give 100 or 1000 people a job to fix a game but without any pressure to do ANY work
Source that there is "no pressure to do ANY work"
Valve's work culture is shit yes, but they fire you if you do nothing. They're not going to let you sit around and cost them money. Stuff obviously does get released. Just slowly and buggily. Why? Because they are understaffed.
>1000 people not meeting deadlines and not doing work are just as effective as 10 people not meeting deadlines and not doing work
Prove it. Because Valve doesn't even have 1000 people for you to back up that statement.

If they had more employees, more shit would get done. You say that there's nothing forcing them to work, but there are plenty of people (eg: ex-modders, who make up a big part of Valve) who would be happy to work on these games even without being forced.

There is no diminishing returns to hiring even IF what you were saying is true (and it isn't).

And like I said, it doesn't matter what the work culture is if you don't have enough people working. One person with an amazing work culture is just never going to match the output of 1000 lazy people with a bad work culture. That's a fact.
>>
>>389446137
why not the EMP in particular
>>389445858
So you mean it would be a graphical upgrade/map reworks and little else? Or are you saying something different
>>
>>389446241

Yeah, that's basically what I'm saying. Update the engine, update the visuals and netcode.
>>
>>389445841
TLDR to save us both an argument
A bad work culture makes less work get done, this is a fact
Not enough employees makes less work get done, this is a fact

However, talking about TF2 specifically, we can obviously see the TF2 Team (which is ONLY FIFTEEN PEOPLE) actually working on the game whenever people randomly turn up for an interview, which means that the problem is not work culture, it's that they don't have enough employees

Therefore it is objective fact that the main issue is with the number of employees
>>
>>389446241
EMP was fucking retarded, Engineer having the most powerful grenade makes no sense. It made the class into a very awkward stilted thing that did one thing on defense and one thing on offense in an otherwise very diverse game.
