Specifically Edo period? Onimusha and Nioh.

If we're going earlier? Genji was basically a loose retelling of Tales of the Heike, and God Wars is based on the Kojiki and other very early fairytales.

God Wars? Yeah, it's a pretty decent little SRPG in the more traditional mold. Well worth a try if you're into FFT as well as Japanese mythology.

People say Shinobido is worse Tenchu but I've beaten it like 6 times and would again if I had my ps2

Hexadrive are goddamn wizards who got Okami HD running at 4K and the PS3 downsamples it to 1080p or something, so it still looks great.
Unfortunately my capture card maxes out at 720p so the screenshot I took doesn't do it justice, but oh well.
