I don't think it will _die_ any time soon. Before pubg the genre had a good population but very shitty implementations. They got it mostly right (although there's a lot of ground to cover still).

It's definitely hyped up now. Should lose some momentum as other good options in the genre show up.

I will say that for all of the hate this game gets the developers have kept all of the normal jewish tricks to a minimum. 30 dollar price tag, no microtransactions except for the crates that went towards the tournament prize pool, no day 1 dlc, no day 1 expansions announcement. Take it with a grain of salt but someone told me they made the map just so they could test the game. Lots of hills, trees, wide open, multiple clusters of buildings, etc. They intended to tailor it further before releasing it but no one complained so they kept it. They are working on another map.

I never played any of the other ones, I'm just aware of their existence.

The only enjoyment I get out of the game is practicing long range shooting since so few competitive shooters have bullet drop/speed. But there are so few instances of this that aren't you getting shot from someone you can't see/shooting someone who can't see you, or not being able to loot a long range rifle and scope that it isn't enough to make me play the game longer than a few hours. There are better fps games with less rng that I can get my fix on.

Probably when the next battle royale style game comes out since plebs eat that shit up

That's the Steam policy on refunding and early access. So any game under an early access tag is vulnerable to mass refunds when they finally release it. Most just stay in early access forever until their games loses popularity and then they release to reduce the number of refunds.
