realistically, though, expect it in 2020 or 2021

it's definitely well in progress already, but the problem is that the financial incentive really isn't there for it to be released any earlier - skyrim is about to be released for switch, and bethesda is still working on making money from skyrim/FO4/etc

Zenimax know Elder Scrolls is a huge payday and don't want to miss a cycle but Bethesda knows their shit is broken and must want the time to make it right.
Being able to whore out skyrim is the perfect opportunity to please both parties.
Next ES should take a year or two more than you would expect and shouldn't feel like the same busted game with a coat of paint that you've been getting.
