WoW killed it. And they're been the main reason it's been decomposing ever since.

Blizzard, ever wise in their wisdom, decided to slowly degrade mechanics until every fucking challenge is gone in the game.

They removed about 80% of original skills, made your character massively overpowered in terms of early zones, and basically live endgame-to-endgame instead of fixing up old shit that people could enjoy once again. And for what prize? You get to faceroll on a couple of shitty bosses for a sliver of "yur da hero of da yooniverse" cheesy bullcrap.

There are legitimately good raids that have become nothing but wastelands now, with the exception of transmog faggots.

MMOs are dead to companies since normies refuse to play them.
To make up for this, I've been playing Star Wars Galaxies on an emulated server.
It's definitely one of the best MMOs of all time and at least there's somewhat of a community supporting it.

WoW killed the genre but not in the way you might think. Just about every publisher saw the WoW cash cow and wanted a slice so they made WoW clones instead of origional concepts, not realizing that people who play WoW aren't going to abandon it to start over on essentially the same treadmill. Que a few multi-million dollar failures and they decided that nobody wanted MMOs so they stopped making them.
