The Illiac Bay, which is southern High Rock, and western Hammerfell.

valenwood?

in terms of story it would be good for a summerset isle game, so much high elf lore and history to go into, and plus with skyrim having a focus on the aldmeri dominion and thalmor they might actually be able to pull off a great story with lots of political elements in that setting

Been replaying this game the past week and holy mother of Moses is the level scaling complete and utter shit. Everyone wanted to complain about how Skyrim was so dumbed down compared to Oblivion, but to be honest Skyrim is leaps and bounds a much better game than Oblivion. It at least doesn't become unplayable by level 20.

Speaking of Oblivion, I've been yearning to replay it, but I don't want shitty level scaling. Is there any mod that balances the scaling out so that I don't cuck myself to death by leveling non combat skills before combat ones?
>>
>>389390726

Because the game is what it is without mods. Mods are not officially part of the game. Why would I judge a game based on aspects of it that aren't actually part of the game? Even still, Oblivions voice acting is awful. Horrendous even. You walk into someones house, they randomly scream at you to get out, you talk to them and suddenly they are super happy to see you and it's all done by like 3 people. The game looks like utter ass and that's even after forgiving it for how old it is. Nothing looks good and there is basically only one environment. Really, the only thing Oblivion does better than Skyrim is the guild quests are slightly more fleshed out. Skyrim does absolutely everything else better. I was actually someone who gave Skyrim shit even though I liked it, but now going back I see I was looking through the thickest of nostalgia goggles. Skyrim is by far the superior game.

Because the level scaling is the fundamental core of the gameplay itself. It's not just some frame rate drops here and there, which in my opinion don't even come close to making Dark Souls unplayable. Every enemy in the game becomes a ridiculous hit sponge by level 15-20 and it's just not fun at all.

>>
>Get in the mood to play some Oblivion
>Start it up
>Have to put it down after a few minutes
I love it but fundamentally at the core there's nothing much to do, when the whole world is so copy pasted, and the quests are all babysitting quests. They should have stuck how they did copy-paste locations in Morrowind, keep everything small. Or made ayleid ruins have more then just bare stone walls and floors.
>>
Combat in vanilla Oblivion wasn't that bad if you mastered conjuration, even with the level scaling a storm atronach would slaughter everything in your way.
>>
>>389392742
the worst part is the lack of quick exit (like in skyrim) at the end of dungeons and caves especially when they have multiple zones

i wouldn't mind the copy paste locations as much if it weren't for having to spend 5 mins running out once you clear the place, I end up just not exploring much at all and only doing quests, which again gets boring if you've completed the game a few times
>>
>tfw bethesda still puts out RPGs using this same rehashed system and they sell millions every time
It's not a bad system I guess but they seriously need to evolve it a bit. The combat in oblivion/skyirm is fucking awful.

Even in Fallout 4 you had to have loading screens to go inside buildings and then you can't look out the windows because bethesda is too fucking lazy or incompetent to make a new engine.
>>
>>389392742

Daggerfall was fucking anus the minute you got out of the first dungeon and realize you've experienced 99% of what the game has to offer. There's nothing interesting to find, it's level scaled out the ass, everything is randomly generated, there's no sense of exploration, and everything just sort of melds into one grey blob.
>>

Daggerfall is shit though and is just randomly generated everything

Always hated the economy and enchantment balance in Oblivion.
>every shop owner has a "unique" piece of enchanted clothing/armor
>most of the time the enchantment is useless
>some of the time it is literally, functionally useless (like fortify alchemy doing literally nothing for you, because alchemy calculations only use your base alchemy when determining potion strength)
>some shop owners can't even sell their special item because unless you have Journeyman mercantile skill that lets shop owners buy and sell anything, they'll only offer a limited selection in relation to their specialty (ie alchemists will only offer potions, ingredients, and apparatus, so they'll never sell that (useless) fortify alchemy hood)
>most of the items have a drawback, like draining your strength or speed, as if it were a cursed item
>the item in question is worth THOUSANDS of fucking gold, and you will never afford it early game even if you wanted to
>late game the item is just even more useless so there's no point buying it
>and I'm pretty sure the negative enchantments on the item like draining your attributes actually drives UP the price

Criticizing the base game is entirely fair. Saying everything is fixed with mods is just lazy and excuses poor game design which is how Bethesda has come to be how they are today. The base game should be enjoyable all by itself and mods should just be there to enhance the experience or offer a new way to play.

>i hate the poor level scaling in the game, Bethesda really goofed
>yeah, but mods
>i hate how everyone looks like potatoes, Bethesda goofed
>yeah, but mods

Just because it's true, doesn't excuse anything. Those are valid complaints.

'He' isn't right about anything.

There's a mod to fix Oblivion's economy. I said to use that mod instead of autistically bitching about a 10 year old game. This is completely and utterly irrelevant to paid mods. You're basically saying because mods exist, that's why paid mods exist. You're so wise!

>Bethesda realized 99% of their game revolves around mods
Except the console versions, right? You're fucking retarded.

Shit you aren't even right about PC users, the majority of them don't even use mods.

Skyrim did not have mods on console on release.
The vast bulk of the user base plays on console.

How exactly are mods responsible for Skyrims success?
You shouldn't have eaten all those paint chips as a child anon.

Oblivion is a damn sham. The whole series has this immense potential, but the fundamentals are just so fucked.

Very comfy. Stacking Goblin totems so the tribes flood an area, visiting Ayleid ruins and learning about how they had enslaved man, chatting with the Vampire count and spying on Mannimarco & his Order of the Black Worm, following citizens in the Imperial City as they go about their daily schedule as you plan to rob them. Not to mention that Cluedo quest in the mansion that was tip top.

I can come up with a long list of memories from when I played Oblivion, Skrim not so much which is pretty sad.

Yes and steamspy had it around 5 mill at launch.
Currently after relaunches and sales it is around 12 mill.

You do understand Consoles also have access to the relaunches and sales?

You may not like PC being the bronze medal winner but here we are.
>>
>>389400705
Steamspy didn't even exist back then and we aren't talking about the special edition, stop changing your goal posts you fucking moron.

20~ million total sales, 12 million of those are on PC.
>>
>>389401186
The 20 mil in sales was from shortly after launch.
The steamspy number is current.

And yes a month after release they said there was 20 mill units sold.

I have no real stake here, nor do I know the accuracy of said site. But it looks like consoles are the bulk of the userbase. It's also worth noting that Skyrim is also being released on the Switch.

>Skyrim
>Pretty cool viking setting
I think you mean generic viking setting. It's even more generic than the gereric fantasy setting of Oblivion. Which probably makes it even worse. Skyrim's setting is the edgy emo goth kid going.
"Oh look I'm totally doing something completely different" when in actuality it is just following another trend that has quickly become generic and stale.
>>
>>389402987
What about it? All of the numbers are on Steamspy and in Todd interviews. We don't need exact console numbers and I've already proven that autist wrong.
>>
>>389402570
If it is so important to you that PC be the king anon then fine PC is the driving force behind the ES sales.

Despite all the evidence to the contrary.
>>
>>389403157
What interviews? All I believe he ever said was how it did sold better than he thought on PC and that it was one of their fastest selling games on Steam. Nowhere at all does that indicate anything about relation to the other versions. I have found nothing on the internet at all that agrees with your position, and you haven't included anything but PC numbers which are meaningless if we can't compare them to Console numbers.

12 mil current according to steamspy.
20 mil units sold 6 years ago.

you think consoles sold 8 mil between them.

>>389404057
20 mil sold was from 2014
>>
>>389404057
>>numbers don't mean anything if the fact wasn't stated
Hold on now, that wasn't even what that was about. You were the one who brought up interviews, despite them not meaning anything. Also, if the 30 mil number is correct according to Todd Howard, then that means consoles together sold 18 mil if PC sold 12. Which means consoles still sold more.
>>
>>389404063
That's including the special edition.
