I want to see characters' movesets get expanded upon.

For example, Mario's FLUDD having a full charge affecting other moves, like his Up Special.

If Link is holding a bomb and fires an arrow, it becomes a Bomb Arrow.

Absorbing a fire special as Ness with PSI Magnet powers up PK Fire.

Samus converts to Morph Ball with her Down Special and gets a limited Morph Ball moveset she can cancel out of by dodge-rolling or using Down Special again.

Bowser's fire breath is different whether you hold or tap the button to use it.

Alternatively borrow enemies from Nintendo series and make them actually behave like they did in those games.

It also needs bosses as good as Master Core and revamped Master/Crazy Hand from 4 and Tabuu throughout the game.

I'd like to see a blend of some Smash 4 mechanics(namely ledge trumping) coupled with Melee's speed and combo game.
Doesn't need to have L-cancelling, but there should be less landing lag. Doesn't need to have wavedashing, but airdodging should be a limited resource.
At the very least increase hitstun so the game can have a working, satisfying combo game and weaker defensive options. One of the biggest turn-offs in Smash 4 is the combo game. It's all guaranteed uthrow into X combos at low % and going into read-heavy pseudo-combos at mid-% until you reach a point where it's all back to neutral until someone gets hit with a stray bair. It's like the worst of SSB64 and Melee, spread over three aspects of the game pace.

I don't think it's speed that's the problem. Melee can be really enjoyable even when slowed down.
There is something about the fluidity in PM that I can't quite grasp. People who get really invested into the game absolutely love it and I can see why, but personally, it feels wrong to play.
And this isn't just a situation where someone played Melee for 10 years and PM for 5 minutes. I've got a good amount of time in both games, but I still can't really get why PM's movement bothers me.

Why not make a fucking competitive mode? Keep it as an item in casual free-for-all whatevers, and make some new interesting way to implement it in a way that makes it competitive.
Or, just forget about it. Smash is going to be played competitive even if there's no specific mode or settings for it. As long as the core game mechanics are good, things will mostly be fine. But, I really wish they'd at least make a better 1v1 mode for online play, or some nod to the competitive scene. Fucking Japs hate fun competition.

That's actually the problem. When you try to cater to two audiences that want different things, you're going to have to make compromises, usually appeasing none.
Melee was an accident. It was things weird fucking situation where the developers somehow managed to add a ton of depth to what was meant as a casual as fuck experience, because they just wanted to make a good game.
But, with Smash 4 you have Nintendo and Sakurai going out of their way to make it more suited for competitive play, yet they regressed in terms of mechanical depth.
I honestly want them to just make a fucking Smash game. Whatever it is they think will play the best, because that is what will be the best for everyone, including tourneyfags like myself. As long as the gameplay is solid, it will be a good game and people will find some way to play it competitively no matter what.
So, don't try to cater to either crowd and just fucking make a good game.
I also think Sakurai should just retired. The poor man needs some rest. Fuck.

It really wasn't. HAL knew exactly what they were doing and all the mechanical depth to Melee were logical steps forward from Smash 64's advanced techniques. Melee was just the rational evolution of the Smash franchise from its previous iteration, it added more gameplay depth on the console that could handle more gameplay depth. The main things that make Melee the competitive monster it is were all entirely intentional decisions based around the physics engine they created for the game.

Then after Melee, when HAL was no longer the developer, they instead went backwards from 64 in terms of gameplay rather than forward from Melee like Melee went forward from 64.

None of these are realistic options. I really don't care if BoTW Link or a different Zelda character gets into Smash 5, as long as they have a unique moveset.

I was going to say it would add another layer to the mix-up scenario, but realised that's a stupid idea. recovery in Melee is already a mix-up and adding more to it just makes games take longer.
In my opinion, when you're off-stage, you fucked up. You played neutral wrong and got punished. You deserve to be in a tough situation and it should be a steep hill to climb back to stage. Fucking keep the edgehogging mechanic, but make it so that with every regrab of ledge, the invincibility is reduced by like 33% or something. This will also remove ledge-stalling, which really doesn't bring anything interesting to the game.

Impa and a real Ganondorf would be the most ideal things for me.

Twinrova, Onox, Ghirahim, etc would all be great, but they're one-offs.
