Was it worth it, Sega? Was it worth pissing off the developers of your product and your paying customers just to implement shitty DRM that got cracked a week after release?
>>
There's already a thread about this
>>
Not only was it worth it, but we're going to keep the useless DRM in the game just to punish our paying customers even further. Fuck you guys for leaving negative reviews on our game because we dalayed it for two weeks to put in a rootkit that nobody wanted.
Stop being so entitled.

Hyuck! It sure was.
>>
I don't really have a problem with the DRM, but delaying the game for 2 fucking weeks was a fucking slap in the face and a really bad call. The numbers on Steamspy aren't looking good.
>>
>>389351996
Seeing as delaying the game resulted in a larger console sale base, I'd say so.

Anyone know this feel? I'm not going to pirate it, but there's something inside me that tells me not to buy denuvo games.
>>
>>389352809

How can Denuvo even annoy you?
>>
>>389353040

>>
Paid 20 bucks for the game anyway.

I just don't know why people think this isn't better than S3K. We're in 2017, not 1921.
>>
>>389353101

That's fine, but what exactly happened? You were playing for that hour and then suddenly you were like "no, fuck this, I can't stand the underlying DRM systems of this executable" and just dropped it right there?

Jesus. Just fucking enjoy the game man, sacrificing enjoyment because of something that is completely outside of your control isn't healthy.
>>
>>389353101
then why even buy it in the first place?
>>
>>389353268

The main thing 3&K does better then Mania is story and zone journey consistency. Also it's true ending is better.
Guess now it's been cracked though, someone will actually mod in their own levels or something at some point or even a new ending.
>>
>>389353364

Be more individualist. You are sacrificing something you could be gaining for a "movement" that isn't going to be anywhere near impactful in your life.
>>

Shill. Nobody is going to feel good about a purchase that restricts freedom. Just get rid of Denuvo, it doesn't even benefit you.

People play sonic games for the story?
>>
>>389353589

>Nobody is going to feel good about a purchase that restricts freedom.

Yet consoles are a thing.
>>
>>389353659
3&K had a totally fine story you could follow without words. Mania's was messy as fuck and nothing meant anything aside from "The Phantom Ruby did it."
>>
>>389353512
I'd say the levels are probably a bit better in Sonic Mania. Not that 3&K has bad level design at all.
>>
>>389353759

Don't you remember when the xbox one was revealed by microsoft and it had all of that shitty DRM like always online, and anti-game sharing?

microshaft removed all that shit when people complained
>>
>>389353364

Its logical. You as a customer did not like the product you purchased because it contains something you don't want.

Others are willing to take it in the ass and come up with excuses as to why its not so bad, but you decided not to take part in that. Thats perfectly logical.
>>
>>389353162
Nostalgia googles, that's it.
My fav in 3 was hydrocity.
I was a bit saddened by Mania act 1.
Then after time attacking it, I realized it's actually better then its original counterpart.
>waaaaaaaa I hate bubbles I hate boats!
Git gud.
>>
>>389353512
>story and zone journey

I played S3K for days. Storywise it's just seconds of transitions from one level to another.

SM fucking rocks in animation, detail and subtle platform and boss battle details. It fucking rocks to play it. It even takes robotnik bots to a whole new level, "story"wise.
>>
and to think Sega was doing pretty well with the port of bayo 1 reguardless if Wii u emulation more focused on bayo2 around that time. and vanish as well.

I want to see a stupid about of mods for mania
>>
Favorite stage?

For me Studiopolis, least favorite probably Lava Reef.
>>
>>389353831
Oh for sure. It has longer stretches of good levels to play through compared to 3&K. I'm just saying the story/zone transitions were weaker then 3&K's. It's no doubt a better game gameplay wise overall.
>>
vanquished
>>389353982
>>
>>389353915
I'd agree with him that the transitions in S3K are pretty cool compared to the weird eggman/robotnik causing sonic to teleport or whatever the fuck is supposed to be happening in Sonic Mania though.

Yet you're using steam
>>
>>389354020
Favourite? Either Press Garden or Studiopolis.
Least favourite? Probably Flying Battery.
>>
>>389353767
I'm not saying it didn't have a decent story, I just have no idea why that'd be an important factor in a sonic game. That'd be like saying Super Mario World has deeper character development than SM64. I mean, maybe, but who fucking cares?
>>
Is this another thread of PC overestimating its importance?
>>
>>389354275
what the fuck are you even talking about?
>>
>>389353831
It is a lot better. We learned a lot of lessons of about the platform category. lessons that weren't prevalent in S3K's day and age.

Sonic Mania takes all that we learned from Sonic platform slips and corrects them.

Sonic Advance games and Sonic Rush games don't even hold a candle to this baby.

>>
>>389354020
I'm a fan of every new level. Studiopolis Act 2 made me bust a nut, Press Garden is fucking beautiful, Mirage Saloon was great (as Knuckles) and Titanic Monarch is my favorite final zone now.

>>389354193
It might not matter to you as much, but I like consistency when it comes to how you get to each level. Most of the levels don't have transitions and the other half they just get teleported. Only like three zones had non-teleport transitions.
>>
>>389351996
>M-MOMMY THE MEAN GAME DEVELOPERS WON'T LET ME PIRATE THEIR GAME!
>hush sweetie, it's past your naptime.
>>
>>389353843

How is that comparable to Denuvo when that is (currently) completely playable offline and can even be family shared?

My original point though was that people are satisfied by things that restricts them in some way (read everything related to console gaming that matters much more than DRM such as not being able to choose your input device of choice) if the enjoyment they get are a net positive.
>>
>>389354505
>It might not matter to you as much, but I like consistency when it comes to how you get to each level.

That's far. It is cool how the zones bleed into each other.

Sonic please don't judge me for this....
God what tragic misstep did we make for people to feel so entitled about video games. So they stick a DRM on there. Steam is one big DRM and noone cares about that. You got a new sonic the hedgehog. THE BLUE BLUR. Our friend is back from the FUCKING dead and you guys only care about some small addition the devs made to secure the safety of their very risky business move. GET OVER IIIIIIITTTT. When Sonic becomes a real hedgehog that runs fast and lets me suck up his hot blue cum then you FUCKS would probably complain about how theres no cupholders on him.
>>
>>389354572

Switch and other console owners have no problem with the game, but only because there's no possible way for Sega to implement fucking Denuvo in their correspondent console versions in order to make it a fucking slug.

>muh principles cause me to be annoyed by DRM

-First, first world problems.
-Second, it doesn't interact with the gameplay at all.
-Third, video games are a luxury. Do you think starving african children over in africa worried over how bad DRM is to video games?
-Fourth, video game journalists have been walking all over ""gamers"" opinions of them for years with no backlash having any affect on them at all, as well as video game companies, so the fact that you believe ""gamers"" can even have """principles""" in the first place is LAUGHABLE.
-Fifth, and I have nothing against pirates, but denuvo is implemented because there are people that want their games for free. I have no problem with pirates that want free games, or nothing, because they are true to their selves. However, if you complain about denuvo, AND call yourself a pirate? I have no respect for you. None at all. The real pirates would beat the shit out of your bitchy, whiny, complaining ass while they played through their endless backlog while waiting a couple of weeks for denuvo to get cracked. Again. Like always.
-Sixth, if it honestly bothers your """principles""" so much, then play those instead of "the evil DRM games". Send your meaningless message to game developers that you won't pay their expensive $20 pricetag if other people can't get the game for free right away. Care about that drop of oil in the ocean instead of playing games. In fact, while you are at it, just leave /v/ entirely, your principles are too important to lower yourself by being here, so go someplace where your importance can be appreciated. Like a concentration camp. Or north korea.

I don't know why autistic faggots keep complaining about DRM. I have not seen one single performance hit.

Meanwhile, you have shit games like Nier Automata on PC, that the community has to fix with a fan patch, that corrects the resolution. But people are fine with it since it has waifu bait. You don't see Steam reviews getting shit on for that. Sometimes, I think there is a conspiracy against Sonic from the gaming media. There's always some garbage that they have to pile on about something or another, even if the game is solid.

>>389351996
I finally played it and I have to say I'm quite disappointed in it(thank you Sega btw for saving me 20 bucks off of this underwhelming as fuck game)

There's a clear lack of game design in Sonic Mania. The new zones(Studiopolis, Mirage Saloon and Press Garden) feel like shallow pieces of shit...it's like they followed the Sonic CD rule of game design(lol just put in things who cares about flow).

When the game has good level design it's because it's ripping off the genesis games(Hydrocity Zone act 2, Lava Reef to an extent). And not to mention a lot of the stages seem visually overstimulating.

The bosses are so stupid and not suitable to Sonic at all. Just like the rest of the game they try to do too much with everything. What the fuck were they thinking with these elaborate bosses? They don't suit Sonic's playstyle at all jesus fuck

I thought for sure Mania would dethrone Sonic 1 as my 2nd favorite Sonic game after 3K but I have to say it's even worse than CD and I have to even rate Advance 1 over it too

Classic series ranking
3K>1>2>CD>Mania

2D sonics in general
3K>1>2>CD>Advance 1>Mania

I don't know if I even want another game from this team anymore. Seems like the only ones who could do it right were the OG Sonic Team(RIP)

>When the game has good level design it's because it's ripping off the genesis games(Hydrocity Zone act 2, Lava Reef to an extent).
>3&K good design
Fukken lol.

You sound like just the twat the game was made for but just being contrarian for the sake of trying to sound smart. And failing.

It has overly long, elaborately gimmicky levels; too many bosses; too many autoplay areas; ridiculously patronizing save system. Green Hill and Chemical Zone are still a blast to play even with revised design and the new powerups and the new zones either fit well design-wise (studio) or looks-wise (mirage) and in some cases both and legitimately well (press). Time Attack shoulda been in the games from day one.

As a whole, it's not Sonics 1 or 2 re-purposed like some of us would like but it's still a legitimately good platformer despite a couple of off levels. And anyone can see that.

>your paying customers
Uh... The paying customers are the ones who bought the game, right? And the ones who are upset are the butthurt pirates?

also notice the spike of the threads saying mania is shit after people say denuvo was finally cracked

>That'd be like saying Super Mario World has deeper character development than SM64.

To be fair, it does

So that's why masses of people are refunding it right? Were they pirates all along?
Retard.
>>
No seriously, how do I get good at this game
>>
>>389372246
I thought they were preventing people from getting refunds? You clueless fucks can't keep your stories straight.

>buy product
>enjoy product itself
>dislike something about the manufacturing, marketing, distribution of product on philosophical grounds
>this decreases enjoyment
What's wrong with this? You find out your shoes are made with slave labor. Even if you're a /pol/ edgelord and your response is, 'I would enjoy them even more!', you're still capable of understanding why this would effect someone? Every time they put on their shoes it's a reminder of something they find distasteful. Or, you find out that your favorite product gives millions and millions of dollars each year to PETA, the Catholic Church, the American Communist Party, the Republican Party, the ACLU or whatever organization you dislike, and every time you consume the product you're reminded that some of your money is going to something you dislike or find unethical or disagreeable or something. Why is that hard to understand? I don't like Denuvo, but it hasn't stopped me from enjoying games. I certainly understand it putting a hamper on the fun for some people, though.

1. press down to roll while you're moving
2. acknowledge that you can destroy most of the enemies while you're in your rolling state, both in air and on the ground
3. acknowledge that if you hit the ground while not holding down you'll leave the roll state
4. acknowledge that if you're stopped by the game after going fast, through hitting a wall or spikes, you should be prepared for some platforming
5. grab those fucking rings that fly out of you
that's all you need to know to play a 2d sonic game

>First, first world problems.
Not an argument.

>Second, it doesn't interact with the gameplay at all.
It does in some cases, such as RiME's idiotic implementation, or people having difficulty connecting to Denuvo's servers during the launch week for Sonic Mania.

>Third, video games are a luxury.
What does that have to do with anything?

>Fourth, blah blah
I got a refund. So I stood up for my principles and no one else had any say on that. I also informed Sega Europe's support.

>Fifth, and I have nothing against pirates
You sure have a lot to say about them though. Anyway, pirates are pirates, can we keep the discussion on track? The guy who you replied to clearly bought the game. So piracy isn't relevant.

>Sixth, blah blah blah
I did pay, then they turned around and tried to fuck me, so I got a refund. Did the same for Tekken 7 too. I can't send more of a message than literally taking my money back, which to my understanding costs them money when purchased via Steam.

>Not an argument.
Okay, Molyjew. Let's pretend you don't have a phone in your pocket right now that can be used as a hotspot for five seconds to let you play the game.

>press down to roll while you're moving
You have to completely let go of left/right to make this work, which is incredibly annoying.
Unless you're playing using an analogue stick,
I guess.
