Pricetag, that's the limiting factor. It's not nearly cheap enough for everyone to jump in on.

This desu. After buying a $400 video card to support it, dropping another 400-600 is a terrible feeling

Its early stage

They are on the right way

As soon as it get a lot more affordable and better in every way everyone will get it
>>
>>389346156
People will never learn that 3D and VR are gimmicks, have always been gimmicks, and always will be gimmicks. Every time some new evolution of these retarded concepts comes along people get all overhyped and insist it'll finally be huge this time, and then within a couple of years people are right back to not giving a shit and watching/playing stuff normally.

Everyone who would have bought one already had a regular Wii, and Nintendo didn't give their fans a compelling reason to upgrade

Too expensive and the games are all shit. Pretty simple.
>>
>>389346709
I think that falls under "make it work better".
>>

The only thing holding me back is there not being a decently sized lineup of good games designed around the hardware. Also I wish the things covered your peripheral vision and had wider FOV. I was mildly disappointed the first time I used one and realized how tunnel visiony it was.
>>
>Too expensive
>No real games

But all that being said, VR stuff is still pretty incredible. I just think we got to the headsets about 4 years early.

And you can't see the potential in VR if they figure out things like locomotion, make some decent games fpr it and give it a massive price reduction?

4 years early is right. They needed to get some games out and let the next cycle of GPUs come out.
I bet they didn't really anticipate the mining shitting on gpu prices though.
90fps both eyes is hard, and a lot of VR games use very low graphic fidelity because of it.

Graphical fidelity matters little when something feels like it's literally in your face.

The problem with 3d and VR is that it's primary consumers are fucking retards. And retards don't make as much money as they cost.
>muh 3d
There's plenty of ways of tricking the brain into perceiving depth in a 2d image. Depth-of-Field manipulation and parallaxing work wonders.
>muh immersion

>>
>>389350332

No, they don't, you retard. You're still focusing on a flat display with a 2d image, and that's exactly what it feels like.
>>
>>389346156
not much porn
>>
>>389350332
jesus christ what a fucking retard
>>
>>389350494
What do you think all of these
>muh 3d
shit are?
Flat 2d displays. Your brain is being tricked into perceiving depth by showing your eyes 2 different images. But the depth you are perceiving isn't actually there. If it looks 3d it's because you're the kind of person who thinks the different colored Frootloops all have different flavors.
>>
>>389346156
Expensive, requires a sizable amount of space to set up, takes an hour and a half to set up/take down so it's not even a great party distraction, most of the games are just some kind of demo/gimmick due to the movement constraints, and you have to constantly be mindful of getting tangled up in the stupid cable behind your head.

It's just far too much hassle for what is at this stage, ultimately just a novelty.

Yeah, 2 different images. That's like saying your brain is being tricked into hearing two different directions because you're using two speakers in your headphones. You're literally saying Mono is just the same as Stereo. Kill yourself, denialfag.

More like "Stereoscopic 3d" is the equivalent of splitting a mono sound signal between 2 speakers and calling it Hi-Fi stereo.
>>
>>389346156
Nothing really, it's just too expensive right now, but it's going to get adoption in about 1-2 years. I actually tried both VR headsets in my university and there's practically no difference in quality except that Rift has better controllers. What I can say is that yes this tech is actually good shit, it has a shitload of potential, it's just that devs are too retarded and uncreative to properly utilize that potential. Something like Black & White would be perfect for the current VR, yet we keep getting these worthless teleporting puzzle/shooter story shit.
>>
>>389350897
except it's two different signals, not the same signal twice.

Again you're just proving how truly stupid you are.

>>

>The price of the current sets have gone down
After they failed to meet sales projections and the companies put them on sale in a desperate attempt to clear inventory.
>>
>>389351046
Thanks for admitting defeat.
>>
>>389351021
Nice arguement. We know for a fact the next line is coming out within a years time. We know for a fact that the current prices will drop, based on the fact they have already, and the fact the price will lower when better models are up for grabs, its how the market for LITERALLY ANYTHING works.

>>389351105
The prices were lowered because the early buzz about the next model started to surface, so they have to clear inventory now because only poorshits will touch v1 of VR when v2 comes out.
>>
>>389350976
Doesn't matter at all, you only have to give someone one try-out at a store and they will be hooked, VR isn't the 3D gimmick shit that does nothing.

I'm going to get contact lenses just to play VR

Boy you sure showed him. Except you ignored the fact that people actually took to all 3 of those things very quickly and they took off huge shortly after introduction. They didn't keep failing and being shoved in people's faces again a few years later.

You know Sega CD being a failure is a AVGN meme right? It was moderately popular considering its absolutely OBSCENE price.

Nothing went wrong, people who can afford them are enjoying them just fine.

People on /v/ who can't afford them have to write out long diatribes of how they're somehow superior for NOT owning one so they don't feel like they're missing out

Can I use my Rift as a 3d display for Dark Souls 1/2/3? I don't actually want or need to be able to move the camera dynamically with the headset, just having it as a head mounted monitor with 3d would be cool for me.
>>
>>389355687
A peripheral to produce a stereoscopic effect when viewing a 2D game is not a game having 3D graphics, so I'm not sure if you thought you were making a point there. It's more comparable to dumb old 3D glasses at a movie, which were already mentioned as being a dumb, failed gimmick they keep hauling back out. So basically, glad you agree.
>>
>>389356301
Sorry. I thought you meant 3D as in Stereoscopic, not 3D as in polygons.
>>

It's a fucking gimmick? How is this any different from waggle controllers for the wii?

It's way more accurate because it has camera tracking.

Yeah, that's a great question..

Hey, OP, how is full head 1:1 head tracking with hand presence not any different than waggling a single accelerometer around?!? Checkmate, nerd!
>>

1) It's not a console but an add-on
2) There have been WAY more consoles in existence than for the Sega CD to be 7th from the bottom.

Selling 2.24 million units is pretty low my dude.
Plus there were standalone versions of the Sega CD made (Genesis CDX)

VR won't become standard until Nintendo makes a real VR machine and other companies copy it. Consoles are the leaders in home electronic innovations and until VR is cheap enough to be included in the console, it won't be standard.
>>
>>389356596
The 2.24 million is the lower part of an estimate. Some estimates have been as high as 6 million. Nobody knows how many Sega sold, particularly since you as mention there were combined units like the CDX out there.

Also, that's not a bad amount considering that to be a Sega CD customer you had to 1) Already own a Genesis and 2) You had to stump up DOUBLE the price of the base Genesis unit for the CD model. Yes, an add-on that cost twice the base unit.
