you're not seeing the big picture.
Denuvo costs money to use and keep using.
As soon as a game is cracked, publishers often allow Denuvo to be patched out.
Because why keep paying fees and punishing customers when you're stopping nothing?

CPY just might have saved Sonic Mania.
I won't even pirate it, I'm waiting to see if SEGA rolls back the DRM so I can finally buy it.

So what exactly has Sega accomplished by adding Denuvo to Mania? Piss PCfags off by delaying the game for two weeks just to add DRM, lie to paying customers AND Steam by only admitting to adding DRM when they got caught, get a shit ton of negative reviews on Steam, have the developers call them out for trying to throw them under the bus and the game gets cracked not even a week after it finally comes out? What a fucking mess and a slap in the face to the developers, who started out as modders and fangame creators.

All the preorders couldn't refund, because Sega packaged Sonic 1 with the Sonic Mania key when they announced the PC delay. This was 14 days. Even though Sonic Mania was not out yet, the attached copy of Sonic 1 made the item register as if it had. So by the time Sonic Mania was released and people wanted to ask for refunds because copy of Denuvo latest version was bigger than the fucking game itself. They couldn't because Sonic 1 was tied to Sonic Mania. Therefore nullifying the ability to refund.

The literal developer of the game is asking people to sign a petition to get Denuvo removed from the game.
Why are you defending something that the creator of the game hates?

Denuvo stopped honest people from wanting to buy Sonic Mania because we are waiting to see if they'll fix it for customers.
I refuse to pirate Mania but I sure as hell am not paying for it until it's fixed.

Meanwhile I've preordered Cuphead DRM-free because not only do they respect their customers but they're charging LESS DRM-free than on steam.

It's a virtual machine anti tamper with the same permissions as a rootkit and makes edits to your registry without your knowledge or consent. That is malware. In the same breath I should mention that all anti cheat software korean mmos use is rootkit trojans in order to function at the level they do. You should look at what Xigncode and Gameguard are. Essentially Denuvo is the same shit.
The worst part about Denuvo is it's made by the same hated company from the past SecureRom who filed for bankruptcy and with their servers offline, bricked a tremendous amount of games. For fuck sake Borderlands 1 used securerom and steam saved it from the abyss by providing a solution to remove securerom from physical copies. Those are the people behind Denuvo. Do you really trust a company that failed once, to do it again with even more invasive software than before.

Denuvo is the reason they delayed the PC version by two weeks. Giving people the shitty ROM version of Sonic 1 was NOT out of the kindness of their hearts, but to guarantee that two weeks had passed since you got your preorder so you couldn't refund your purchase after you learned about Denuvo. They did not reveal that they were using Denuvo on the Steam page until people rightfully complained about it. Fuck Denuvo and fuck the higher ups at Sega for thinking this was a good idea.

NieR Automata which is three versions back now checks every 3 weeks.
Denuvo depending on game and version code, will send hundreds upon thousands of checks every hour if it sees fit to the developers of Denuvo. With this latest version it's at it's absolute worst, being always online and performing over 300 checks a minute totaling up to a minimum of 18000 checks an hour. Okay, so here's a small timeline. Five days away from release, a guy manages to break street date and buy a Switch collector's edition. Whatever, it's just a digital game, right? Right. Nintendo is so shit they let the guy activate and download the game before the release date. He streams the entire game. Within hours, the community manager calls for a surprise announcement the next morning. The community expects a surprise release. Morning of the next day comes, the stream is on and the other fat community management guy tells us Aaron (the community manager) is stuck in an emergency meeting. Unfortunately, they deleted that footage from Youtube, but others can vouch for this. He eventually shows up. This happens:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbqPX15G9_0

Right after the delay announcement, Taxman (lead dev) drops this tweet:

https://twitter.com/CFWhitehead/status/896047063024025602

People panic, from here all the way to up to the romhack community home, Sonic Retro. Fanboys quickly rationalize it as Taxman mentioning this article:

Taxman made no effort to clear that up and he always posts on Retro.

The actual reason is because consoles already do basically what Denuvo does, using cryptography to enforce licenses.
PS4 and XBO may never receive proper piracy during their generations just because their DRM is so strong, you can run custom software on them (for example you can boot Linux on a PS4 and install steam) but the game copy protection itself is pretty tight.

You are wrong, just because you don't care doesn't stop gamestop from burning unsanctioned copies of games and selling them. That's what console piracy looks like.
>>389346640
Sega reps won't ever admit it, but the development team is a bunch of romhack script kiddies that had sega's help so they weren't above throwing sega executives under the bus over it.
The meeting probably went down something like executive mentions drm and sale protection, has the internal developers at sega slip in denuvo after the game is finished for console release. The actual developers of the game don't even know this until after the fact.
This is a good example of internal teams fucking with external hires.

You're only seeing the small picture.
ps3 was the first console to be somehow hard to crack, and that was 2006. Untill ps4, which came out in 2014, it was the only console that managed to be a trouble for pirates.
For over 30 years every console was getting shitloads of pirated software, and i can assure you nobody ever made such a fuss out of it.
This is why you should think who is so much salty about piracy and who is behind these threads

Never really found the bugs to be a huge issue aside from the music bugs. Well I actually thing the Super Saiyan Blue glitch is cool and hope it doesn't get patched out.

The game is hardly flawless, and there's evidence of it being rushed, but I still had a shit ton on fun with it and think it's up there with 3&K. And that's fucking impressive for a bunch of Sonic autists' first try.

I feel like if we get a second game, it'll fix most of these issues unless Sonic Team is really retarded.

Plagiarism, Copyright, and Copy Protection along with Anti Tamper and DRM solutions are all against freedom. They exist solely to pray upon the minds of those who would grant us more intellectual design not less. Every famous artist to ever exist is a thief by definition as it's how they ate. Even DaVinci, Rambrant, and Van Gogh are technically thieves and forgers.
DRM solutions pray upon the ideas that piracy can be stopped and is bad for sales. Which in every case has been proven wrong. That's why Denuvo is such a shitty company along with who they were in the past SecureRom. They ply money from businesses in the false ideology that piracy can be stopped. As if the world stops moving for this one company to bend space and time. Truly the worst human filth on this planet are those that peddle solutions to problems that have no solution. For that in earnest you deserve my hate.

Problem is no one is original anymore, every idea has been done twice and then four times over for good measure. So copyright exist for little more than protecting a cartoon mouse long past his public domain due date. Normally an artist would receive his dues and the work he has done enters public domain within later life where people can adjust and freely edit, add or use the image or idea. Now this idea has been bastardized by white gloves and idle hands to keep hold over an industry. The sole reason why copyright now last about 3 generations is over a fucking cartoon mouse.

Defending this bastardization of the system in play is simply believing the solipsism that Walt Disney was a saint, when he was a womanizing racist calling for the animation of cartoons to be done solely by white viral men.

It was a sonic game made by some developers that convinced Sega to fund their romhack of Sonic 3 and CD combined with half recycled level designs.
Sega themselves with Sonic Team haven't made a good sonic game in over a decade going on two decades. And they continue to prove that, because their next game is Sonic Forces. Which is deviant shart autism ramped up to maximum with wubs and dubs music.

Sega wholeheartedly needs to kill Sonic and they are over a decade late. They have so many other good IPs, but hang onto Sonic by the balls, because of the extremely autistic fanbase.

You don't understand how copyright and public domain work.
The creating artist receives monetary claim and gain over those ideas he patented or copyrighted for his lifetime. Not his children or children's children, not ten generations down the gap. THE ARTIST LIFETIME.
This has been agreed upon and adjusted upon for hundreds of years. This is what founds the backbone of copyright and public domain. Once the artist has passed on, the idea or works enter public domain which can now be freely used, edited, or displayed. Giving birth to the next generation of story tellers and artist that gain inspiration from this public domain.
Due to Disney, this law has been extended from 20 years to 35 years to 50 years to 65 years to 90 years to 120 years to 165 years currently. That's 5 generations in which a work is held outside of public domain. This kills generational works since no idea is inherently original based on human thought, because some guy can't publish his princess story, because Disney owns the rights to princesses story telling. A cartoon mouse can't be replicated, because Disney owns that. Micheal Jackson songs can't be used in public domain after his death, because Pepsi bought his image.
You obviously don't understand the subject matter. I recommend law over the last 1800 fucking years.

I already beat it on Switch and Steam. Might download the cracked version just for portability though.
If there's one thing I miss it's being able to copy my games onto discs and drives to play any time I want without logging in to some bullshit.

Correct

Taxman made a portable engine

But Stealth did all the reverse engineering work to find out how the games work. Stealth's work and own engine predates Taxman's, but you'll never hear about that with the way they advertise Taxman as some sort of God.

Hell, there are people that don't even know he was responsible for the Sonic 1 GBA fan port made to spite SEGA's own attempt.

But people are copying the game right now, a week after its release.
Your argument about 160 whatever years has absolutely no bearing on what we're discussing here.
Also, if someone incurs the cost of protecting their work for x amount of time, then good on them. They clearly think it will withstand the test of time and that people will still want to consume the media for that long. It's a calculated risk that, in Disney's case, is paying off.
Basically, fuck you for trying to devalue someone elses work because you can't come up with something of your own.

nigger i have almost 400 games on steam, nearly half of them i pirated before buying, im sure id buy this if they remove denuvo, maybe i would even if they dont

do you even have a gaming PC and the ability to pirate, or are you just salty as fuck that you dont?

buying games is well worth the cost of the risk of encountering annoying as fuck if not game breaking bugs which cannot be fixed without an update, which could break the save game file or not even be available unless you buy it, especially in todays age of day 1 broken releases

What the hell kind of logic is that? Maybe I'm just irritated as fuck that I can't talk about Sonic Mania because every single thread is filled to the brim with faggots ranting about how they're morally superior for pirating a game they wanted, and having the gall to say "I'll buy it when they remove Denuvo".
>>
fitgirl just uploaded it and compressed it even more an hour ago lads
>>
>>389354073
Because Denuvo already got paid and there's always a crack shortly after launch, and you like the idea of Sonic Mania and want to convey that to the publisher.
>>
>>389353879
It's not that an SSD can't read and write at the same time an HDD can do that also.
The problem is an SSD because it's not as far along in the tech cycle as an HDD is it's not sanctioned for nearly as many read and write cycles as an HDD.
Your typical SSD of same size to an HDD partner is only sanctioned for 1/20th the work load. An SSD that will come with a 2 year guarantee where as an HDD of the same quality would come with 5 years of guarantee.

Most people don't know this and still use SSD for video games that connect online or regularly update. Putting Steam or an MMO or a Denuvo game on an SSD where regular read and write cycles are occurring daily is the worst fucking thing you can do. Hence why any professional will recommend an HDD as a main line for most shit and an SSD for Operating System functions and long term storage solutions. Where as the HDD is better at short term quick change solutions.

>What you are owed is paid now.
Wrong. You are owed when you trade your goods and services to someone.
The fact that you made the goods x number of years prior, or that you've sold them to others as well has no bearing on the current transaction.
You're basically saying "if you make a game, you can only sell it once, after that it's gotta be free for everyone".
You're a delusional fuck and I hope you never try to create anything to sell in perpetuity. Or better yet, I do hope you try, and I hope that someone tells you that you should give it to them for free because you made it three weeks ago and you've already made one sale on it.

The publishers decide whether or not to use Denuvo per release, they're not stuck on a contract. By buying the game, you send the message that Denuvo is okay, what you do with it afterwards doesn't mean anything to the publisher. All you did was support malware you don't want.
