I casually played WoW on and off since the end of vanilla, but never hit level cap before. I hit 110 a few days ago.

Raids, Mythic+ dungeons and I guess Arena are all the endgame in WoW. BGs and Pet battles are the only sort of mini-game around, aside form collecting transmogs, pet hunting, and mount hunting.

I for one have fucking hated WoW PvP since WotLK, it was great before then, and I became burnt out after seriously raiding for several expansions in a row, and I slowly came to want to interact with people less and less over the years, so for me the only end-game was pet battles, transmog hunting and money farming for WoW tokens. So I quit. I sometimes miss pet battles, I hope they do more with the pet dungeons, I fucking hate that they waited until I quit to start adding more pet battle content.

No, it wasn't.

Endgame was all about the continuation of growth of your character. Min/maxing your talents, consumables, gear, enchants, profs, and glyphs (in wrath).
Then you looked like a patchwork hobo and got to raid.
You could also follow a similar process with PvP.

Now, everything is handed to you and you can do whatever you want right out of the box.
The above combined with cross server stuff creates a massive problem.

Lack of player community.
There's really nothing remarkable about WoW. People loved it since they played with friends and it continued WC3 lore.
It also offered somewhat of a challenge for the time.

Now you just have no accountablity and massive turnover, because you can finish everything easily.
And I know some faggot is going to come along and say

No, I haven't. Because taking the same God damn raid, adding an extra mechanic or two, and then inflating the numbers isn't content. It's laziness.

My recommendation is to play Elysium or Warmane if you want a close enough experience to form your own judgement. I've made lasting friends on both servers, and I still play games with them.

There's plenty of things that drove towards it, but that's what it'd become.

The only thing MMO about it is that a lot of people can tag your mobs when the expansion starts. Other than that, it's pretty generic.
