Considering Melee isn't a fighting game, I honestly can't remember. I'm going to guess and say it was Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers on emulator, but I could think of so many others I could have played first

This game made me appreciate how difficult it was to properly balance a fighting game. Both Aska and Cyber Shredder had a cheap and easy attack which could be spammed to corner-trap, and had a short enough recovery time that they could use it over and over without worrying about being struck back.

Eternal Champions was too dope. Rad music, interesting story and unique characters.
You could get temporary tattoos of the characters in slurpee cups at 7-11 too, shit was cash.

The first fighting game I really bent over backwards to master was "TMNT: Turtles In Time". That game was the 'killer app' that made me want an SNES of my own to begin with, and I played it to the point of memorizing the 'enemy spawn rhythm' on every map. Shit was awesome.

Tekken 3 shit used to trip me out when I was a kid. The fucking tiger dude especially.

My first ever fighting game was a demo of Tekken on the original Playstation.

I thought it was pretty fun, but there again I was pretty young at the time. I went on to borrow Tekken 2 from a near and dear friend of mine several times a short while later, and that's what really lit the spark for me.

We played Tekken 2 a lot, we completed the story for all the characters and played each other countless times in versus mode. I remember Lawfagging it up by spamming that spinny attack because the AI didn't know how to counter it...

That being said it also taught me something about myself and my preferences. Fighting games are really fucking dull.

After a while me and my friend both realized that be it versus, or arcade or story or whatever meme-modes were available, the goal was always the same: find the easiest way to deal the largest amounts of damage to the opponent and then spam that and hope you win.

Hell, this is the mentality that's still very alive today. Sure, you can talk about frame-perfect blocks and predicting moves all you want, but it's all just icing on an otherwise bland cake.

This entire mentality was cemented around Tekken 3, and despite having fun with it every now and then, I never bought a fighting game again, and don't foresee myself every doing so.

I didn't knew what Street Fighter was before this.

I never really got used to Vega's supers when i played other CVS because i wasn't used to diagonal charge imputs, in fact i hated Guile.

Also Gundam Battle Assault 2 is still my favorite PS1 game.
