Each can be useful in a specific situation. Dva is just better all around.

Although I've taken out plenty of Dvas as Zenyatta, it's all dependant on skill and team cohesion, even god tier Dva players are rendered useless from their shit team mates.

I mean it's pretty obvious what the gay meta will be in the next patch is huge gay balls and DVa can survive a dive into a 6 man ball if their 6 man ball is in range of the diving distance.
The important thing is the mech can die and dva can back pedal to ball revive distance. So basically DVa dives at them in a rythmic motion dictated by the revive cool down so they can die and use the revive cool down more efficiently.

Can you explain a more efficient way to prevent mercy from dying than doing a gay ball. If your mercy dies first then your team doesn't have a mercy and they do so you just all die in 5-10 seconds.

Genji isn't a counter to Dva and it's silly to think he is. They don't have a matchup worth discussing where one counters the other. They don't really interact in any meaninful way besides blade going through defense matrix, which is the reason it's so important to have a defensive ult ready against blade.
