Flawed
Obsidian
Pick two
Masterpiece
Obsidian
Pick one.
AOE III
Better than AOE I and AOM
CoP is great but flawed as well
Is Obsidian even able to create anything other then games that are either flawed but memorable or fine but soulless?
>>389290129
how does that not apply to a majority of studios?
>>389290032
ye
>>389290217
Because most studios don't consistency release: A.) Blatantly unfinished games (KotoR II), B.) Games that are borderline unplayable upon launch (New Vegas) or C.) Both (Alpa Protocol).
>>389289951
Nice greentext newfag.
Planescape: Torment
Dark Souls
Hollow Knight
imo this is better than 1
but there are some really fucking cheap levels and the stages are a little too huge
>>389290631
Richter's stages gave me aneurysms while trying to A+
>>389289589
>>389290949
>Non sensical world design
>World design lacks interconnectivity the first one had
>I-frame are tied to a stat
>Soul Memory
>Lifegems
>Objectively awful bosses like Royal Rat Authority
>Areas like Shrine of Amana, The Gutter and Black Gulch
I get the 'flawed' part but I'm not seeing the 'masterpiece' part.
>>389291197
The PvP and online mechanics are what makes it a masterpiece, plus the great DLC
>>389291290
I'll give you the DLC, Sanctum City is one of my favorite areas from the series. Never got into PvP after how bad it was in DaS.
>>389290132
>combat sucks
>every level is a corridor
>MINIGAMES
flawed is an understatement
>>389291290
>The PvP and online mechanics are what makes it a masterpiece
>Soul Memory
>plus the great DLC
>only great compared to the main game.
the meaning of "flawed masterpiece"
>>389291520
>the meaning of "flawed masterpiece"
That's not VTMB
>>389291642
VTMB is just flawed
>>389291642
>VTMB
the meaning of "flawed but since it has waifus people will eat this shit up"
>>389289589
How is this a masterpiece?
All of my favorite games are flawed masterpieces.
>>389291642

Flawed is an understatement.

The movement mechanics and the aesthetic style is absolutely god tier, but the combat, story, and length of the game is mediocre. They had a chance to fix the flaws with the sequel but instead they ended up ruining the masterpiece parts.

t. played the first 10 minutes of the game and then goes back to spamming /v/
>>389289589
I love this game, truly. But I've yet to complete it because it crashed across three fucking attempts on two different platforms.
And yes I installed unofficial patches.
>>389293084
If 10 minutes means 10 playthroughs, then yes.
>>389293153
Yup, sounds like your average Obsidian game.
>>389293023
That's a great joke anon, I almost forgot to laugh.
>>389293194
Proof?
Respect to anyone who can stand the gameplay for 10 full sessions.
>>389293194
Have you done a Malkavian play through?
>>389293453
I assume by gameplay you mean combat. Anyway, the "le combat is bad" meme is blown way out of proportion. New players of the game often point that out, so it's not just me saying this either.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that most western RPGs have garbage combat in general, so VTMB's doesn't stand out negatively or positively in any way from the rest. It's the writing, world-building (aka atmosphere), characters, setting and soundtrack that make it so beloved. And the reason people do so many playthroughs is because the game has an incredible amount of roleplaying depth that caters to different clans, stats, humanity, and of course in-game choices.
>>389293780
yes, twice
>>389293891
So none. Coupled with a really "everyone else does it" excuse.
>>389293893
Absolutely agree. ME1 is my favorite game, but there are some godawful aspects to it.
Currently doing a paragon playthrough with a qt blonde haired, dark skinned femshep

>Flawed
Let me guess you hate the Mako sections and complain about the inventory?
>>389294068
>So none.
what?
Parasite Eve 1/2
>>389294124
Not him, I love the mako and it's wonky handling, but those sections are unbearable on higher difficulties
>>389294124
No.
It's just that the first ME game is way too short and had too much potential for its own good there was no way they couldn't have fucked it up in the sequel.
>>389293893
>>389294124
>shepard emotes on the same level of cardboard
>noveria is a bugfest both technically and literally
>most of the side missions are driving the mako to map markers of warehouses filled with I WILL DESTROY YOU/mines filled with husks/one hit kill tedium maws
>your choices don't matter, thanks ME2, 3
There's more wrong with it, but despite it all, I still play through the game now and then.
>>389294124
BUT THE MAEKO OS SO HARD OT CONTRELL HUR DABLE OH EFF TEEE

cursed to fade away into obscurity, it is truly the most flawed, for it was never even allowed to exist.
>>389291197

Lemme bite this:
>Don't Make The Beggar Out Of Me
It's a nice small quest. It gives you two options of solving it (good NCR goy or drug runnin nigguh), and dealing with Tyrone includes a ton of skill and stat checks.
>Strength of 7
>Speech of 40
>Black Widow perk (yeah you can take Tyrone's BBC like the filthy slut you areexcept Tyrone is actually white)
>Barter of 35
>Selecting aggressive dialog
It's not a super complex quest but it has good and bad ways of doing it and since New Vegas actually has factions you can get some positive (or negative) rep with them. Plus, it's not stupid. It's pretty grounded in reality.
>Can You Find It In Your Heart
Okay, that quest was just bad. I won't defend it.
>Hard Luck Blues
Aaaand I'm done. The quest is incredibly memorable and tough combat-focused dungeon crawl with the best treasure room in the game (if you're into Guns). Reducing it to a flowchart like that is dumb.
>>389297993
HERO
i wouldnt call it a masterpiece but Silent Storm is a pretty good SRPG, that gets completely RUINED when the game introduces mechs
Valdis Story is also a nice Metroidvania with some lacking polish
Satellite Reign is nice SRPG if you can deal with annoying bugs and if you play with the option to pause the real time combat (option which doesnt really work properly but its better than nothing)
>>389300090
I liked SS mechs. Only played SSS though.
>>389300123
the problem is that once the mechs are introduced they become the only valid strategy
they are the best counter to other mechs, since other weapons barely scratch them, you can empty an entire machinegun on one of those fuckers and it will do squat, even firing a rocket launcher will only do medium damage and you need to get stupidly close to have a decent chance at hitting them, while they can shoot at you from across the map
besides inside a mech suit you can just mow down hordes and hordes of enemies and they cant do anything about it
this is the case in the base game atleast
>>389300880
I think you get some sci-fi weapon that kills mechs pretty well later, at least you do in SSS. It looks like XCOM's laser rifle (the OG one), shoots green beam and is, well, a laser rifle.
I liked how SSS did the final mission - you could do a full frontal assault with panzerkleins and shit, or you could take a stealth mission approach where you infiltrate through sewers or something like that, no panzerkleins allowed. I actually did both because it was pretty fun.
>>389297698

>Bethesda is bad meme
You Obsidiots are insufferable
>>389301637
>bethesda is better because they've made a lot of popular stuff
>these points are false because I say they are
>these factions don't count as factions because I say so
>"send ghouls to outerspace" so you clearly didn't actually play the quest
wow i sure am btfo
>>389301826
This.
>>389301875
They're lies because not every quest branches or has variety, not every location is important or affects the world, and not every action has reactions as the pic said.
The "factions" crossed out are the non real factions and non joinable ones the original creator added to make the NV side look beefier. Only 2 or 3 factions actually offer a considerable amount of content upon joining them
Really not that hard for a level headed person to understand
>>389301826
>>389301826
>bethesda is bad
>a meme
lol
>>389301637
>when you try to debunk a meme image but end up looking like a complete retard doing so
>>389289589
I'm very disappointed I had to post this /v/
>>389301637
You know, I can let this slide as bullshit, but when you call groups "non-factions..."
>BoS, the most technologically literate faction in the Mojave, and a major contributor to the battle of Hoover Dam
>Great Khans, the fallen dominant nomadic that is courted by all major stakeholders in Hoover Dam
>Followers of the Apocalypse, whose mission is to provide a safe and prosperous environment for the Wasteland to recover within. Their mission produces the man who forms Caesar's Legion in an attempt to fulfill their goals through conquest of belligerent and uncooperative tribes
>Boomers, isolationists whose involvement in current events could turn the tide for the player's chosen faction, but you have to convince them that the world, as it is, is worth joining
>Omertas, a faction with the resources and will to sabotage the only authority figure on the Strip
>House, whose faction is composed of robot agents and a right hand man maintaining order in what would be a lawless wasteland in their absence
>Powder Gangers, who stalk the roads and occupy small towns, as a clear example of NCR's incompetence and lack of agency when they should have these people under control
No big surprise that a 3fag can't grasp the concept of worldbuillding... Doesn't need to be a story in the world as long as you have Le PlUnGeR rOoM XD

>>389305225
>Morrowind's journal system
>>389293893
When it comes to Mass Effect 3 people always complain about the ending, but for me the worst part is the ladders.
>>389305225
Tribunal fixed it at least.
>>389292286
ARMA 3
>>389305641
I hated what they did to the gameplay.
Mass Effect 2 had a great balance where the combat was fun; but also encouraged you to think about each battle and come up with a strategy.
Mass Effect 3 sped everything up and had every enemy constantly charging and flanking your position so there was no point to strategy since by the time you came up with one the enemies were either all dead or overrunning your position. It worked decently for the multiplayer which was mildly amusing; but it ruined the single player.
>>389305225
It's so bad I kept a piece of paper with what quests I collected on it.
>>389305225
>he didnt play the expansions

Better than Fallout New Vegas, fight me.
>>389307210
I wish it was turn based.
I don't like real time with pause.
>>389307330
To each his own but I find it more immersive and preferable due to the high amount of control it allows. Also allows me to fly through encounters I'd gumba stomp.
>>389290032
Would agree, is my current favorite game. This, Pillars of Eternity, Fallout New Vegas, Bloodborne, Planscape Torment, and Fallout 2. Also have a guilty pleasure, Undertale.
>>389307472
I'm just not used to it. I bought it; but I've never played any games of that style before so I'm having trouble getting into it.
Any suggestion on a fun build?

This is what I play as the high resolve and int allow for more dialogue options and I like having a paladin off tank with Eder as the main one. Although it might be a bit boring combat wise.

that's a lot more convenient than any game's journal system can possibly be. i always keep a notepad around when i play RPGs.
