Thoughts? Will this be a true return to form for Japanese Horror Games?

The first game was made with last gen consoles in mind and was ported over to current gen. This one is built from the ground up with current gen in mind. At the very least, it won't be some buggy, technical mess like the first one. Or maybe it might.
>>
I want to believe.jpg

But realistically it will just be sorta okay. Not very horror, but a decent TPS.

But stories in videogames are better than movies and books. They can be linear or have branching paths. There's a potential to tell greater stories with videogames, like Nier: Auto. Stop being so close-minded. Movies and books are overrated.

You barely made it through the tutorial level and you just made assumptions on the story? I can understand quitting for gameplay reasons, but you quire literally have experienced none of the actual story. Do you have the attention span of a toddler?
>>
If they go all out on the mindbending shit it will be an improvement at least.

For me the biggest problems were that the characters were incredibly boring, Seb didn't have any real connection to anything that was happening (and doesn't even acknowledge the revelations you find about his wife), most of the areas are typical horror locations instead of playing into a setting where literally anything could happen. While I liked the basic gameplay and even the crossbow, there wasn't much enemy variety and there was an extremely large amount of things with one-hit kill moves, which I feel is antithesis to survival horror, where the point is making good long-term decisions with your resources instead of hard pass/fail mechanics.

So I take it you didn't like Silent Hill games either. Theres a simple and elegant answer to all of it though, the brainworld-machine on top of the Asylum is a second of its kind. And with a new Wireless feature. You were in a gore mindfuck world the instant all characters hear the strange noise in the car the very first minute in the game. Same goes for all the cops, firefighters and neighbouring houses.

This is the only good criticism, but its so minor within the context of the scene that it shouldn't even matter. Everything else has a reason and explanation if you actually played the game. Don't go thinking you have any legitimate opinion on the story when you haven't experienced practically any of it.

Well you do learn that she was investigating the very shit you're dealing with when she went missing. The DLC confirms that she's working with them or what, and 2 seems like it will have a much stronger emphasis on her and their daughter which will be a welcome improvement. A huge problem for Seb is that the very reason he even wanted to be on the case was to get closer to figuring out what happened to his wife, but makes absolutely no attempt to do that despite the fact the diaries you're forced to read seem to be trying to build it up, and then he comes through the entire game with literally nothing to show and no interest shown in getting anything.
>>
>>389283318

Or he does Ganondorf and is the main villain behind everything all along.
>>
RE7 was pretty damn good and the first TEW was great. Just a bit story paranoid, not that it matters, because the characters realize the plot is just inception.
>>
>>389283594
Games can give you "Choose your own adventure" experiences plus more like a world to explore on your own accord, gameplay, and it's undoubtedly better than reading words on a page. I don't have anything against books, but videogames are an objectively better medium to tell stories. I'm sorry you're too old and out of touch to understand.
>>
>>389283497

>that still makes little sense

How? Theres a machine in the game taken from movie The Cell where you can enter a virtual reality made from every visitors memories. First version you required a Matrix cord in your neck to enter it. New version has a Wireless version that doesn't require a cord. You hear a loud sound and you're already connected to the machine without your own knowledge. From that point on you're inside the Matrix and nothing you see is truly real.

Silent Hill's beginning is just as vauge as the beginning of The Evil Within. Even more so if you didn't read the manual for the prologue beforehand.

>>
Whatever happened to the nurse in the first game?
>>
So where was Krimson City? Any particular country?
>>
>>389285161
Nurse was actually someone from Mobius. I think she was sent in to keep an eye on things. Maybe even provide a safe area to guarantee "assets" do their job.
>>
>>389285393
So Sebastion's wife was working for Mobius and diapered right?

>>
>>389284903
i'd agree if 10 minutes into silent hill you're speeding away from explosions and headshotting zombies while characters seem to not even notice its happening.

sh probably does tell you even less about itself than tew, but it's a long time in silent hill before "something" even really happens and all the game expects you to know is the place is bad and things will kill you. as opposed to completely surreal and unbelievable events happening back to back in the first 30 minutes.

>>389284850

>>

I'm expecting it to move away from some RE4 elements because being linear and too much shooting are what people complained about with the first one.
>>
>>389281062
In one of the IGN articles about it they mentioned how you aren't slowed down by having to use matches on all the corpses now.
Not only did it annoy me that they apparently never learnt how to play the game, it also annoyed me that one of the more fun mechanics from the first appeared to be gone.

Theres plenty of lore and "symbolism" in the game. Just remember after very first minute of the game all characters and people in the vicinity of the Asylum are already inside the Matrix.

I must have missed a trick with this, like shooting Laura when she's on fire. So many games have long boss animations which they're invincible in or can't be harmed in so I assumed gunfire was to stun her while you set up traps to do all the damage, but it turns out you're supposed to use that window to damage her instead of set up the next trap.

Every single time I went to throw a match on to an enemy, the window before they begin flailing is literally the frame they hit the ground. Was there some point I was supposed to shoot or am I supposed to put another round into them to stop this, because I remember the flailing having long range, continuing until they stand up anyway and having a lot of reach for a downed enemy.
>>
>>389285994

Matches were just a Silent Hill stomp with ammo by its mechanic. They had very limited usage otherwise and most of the time you didn't even have to get rid of corpses, unless the four-armed boss was around.
>>
>>389285774
>but it's a long time in silent hill before "something" even really happens
It doesn't even take 10 minutes into the intro for you to din yourself suddenly in the Otherworld and then 'die'. When you wake up there is essentially no reaction from Harry to Cybil about the experience and then you right back to exploring the town for Cheryl, only now there are monsters too.
>expects you to know is the place is bad and things will kill you
How is that practically any different from TEW?
>>
>>389286287
You can just stand by their legs.
>>
>>389286350
>Not using it to burn 3-4 zombies alive

>>389286287
It's been awhile but I don't remmber this really being an issue.
You can also match them if they step in a bear trap/use electricity bolt.
And if a hay bale is around you can go wild.
>>
>>389286698

Bunching them up on the ground was rare, I only recall doing it effectively with the monks on the part with the harpoon turrets. Just shoot one flashbang-arrow in the middle of a bunch then Stealth kill them all to death, much easier and less of a hassle.
>>
>>389285479
According to the DLC, yeah. She didn't completely disappear, as she was with the STEM machine when Seb woke up. Makes me wonder if she left those notes to throw him off the trail.

Fucking yes. 2 trap parts to make a harpoon that one-hit-kills most enemies and stuns the Ruvik mimics long enough to burn. 2 trap parts to make a stun that stuns the chainsaw guy so you can stealth attack him and take away a huge chunk of his health. Freezing bolts that insta-kills all normal enemies and set up a window for punishing bosses.
>Is there even a point in improving your melee?
Only if you're going for the melee achievement. I guess if you unlock the brass knuckles, fully upgraded melee is roughly a two-hit kill.
>>
>>389288049
That's Stefano. He had his own introduction trailer. His voice is really fucking familiar and I still have no idea who the fuck it is

>>389287638

You can break the game by updgrading the standard bolts to Max. They're overpowered as fuck and very cheap to make.
>>
>>389288073
To clarify what this guy is saying, you get brass knuckles for completing Akumu (maybe nightmare as well, not sure), so you can't get them on normal.
Can't remember what the melee achievement is, but I can't imagine upgrading melee will help in anyway since you can stunlock enemies with melee, so if there is just one guy you can go ham.

It's kind of cool that the fact he's an artist seems to influence the enemies. If you look closely at the buzzsaw woman, you'll notice she's made up of body parts tied together, like he was building a statue out of corpses. Then there's that floating enemy which was in a graceful pose in one of the trailers. And of course, there's the camera enemy.
