As someone who's in a situation not too different from this simulation, this game is bullshit. I don't have a kid or a car, thus public transportation barely runs me $30 a month, and if you aren't stupid enough to have a kid in your teens/20's you can get roommates. My rent isn't even $400 monthly, and I still have enough money to save and burn on vidya, as well as afford to pay out of pocket when I go back to school in January.

I agree with the sentiment that poor people can use assistance but this isn't the way to do it.

You have to fuck up real fucking bad to get kicked out of an apartment, because if you have a 6- or 12-month lease agreement to pay a certain monthly amount the landlord has a ton of incentive to keep you living there. Kicking you out means nullifying the agreement, getting rid of your steady stream of rent, and having to spend time and money getting a new tenant to fill your now-empty apartment.
