I started on Yakuza 0 after beating 4.

Jesus fuck the difference is night and day. The combat is much more fluid now, and it jumping up to 60 FPS has been amazing. Not only that, but little things like substory mission locations popping up on the map is a huge help (Don't know if 5 had it, but still). Hell, just being able to play Space Harrier was a huge thing (I know shenmue had it, but I love when games include older titles as a playable bonus).

Only downside is the screen tearing can get pretty bad, and there are dips in FPS, but still.

It's rng. I usually pick cards with full double circles so you get a damage boost no matter which hand you pick and if you pick it right away at 10 seconds you get even more damage. It's basicly just RNG, but you can increase the damage
The first few battles are easy though since they basicly tell you their tactic or do the same stuff over and over again. The only fight that took me more than one try was Majima

3 is the real shitshow. The plot goes full retard and it has massive swathes of cut and censored content for the Western release. It takes eight to ten hours for the game to actually start (you spend the rest of the time watching cutscenes and doing chores at the orphanage) and the game goes out of its way to shit on the legacy of characters from Y1 and Y2 (Kashiwagi, Fuma/Kazama, Daigo, Kaoru, and more). It really is bad, but the badness is somewhat mitigated by the upgrade to full 3D exploration. It really is nice seeing Kamurocho without loading screens. Okinawa is also top comfy.

Honestly 1's plot is just as dumb as 3 or 4's, it excels at the little moments like when you're just walking around with Haruka and shit, but the Nishiki and Jingu stuff? Pretty retarded if you ask me
3 is just not very entertaining, plot is pretty boring and overplayed to the point you have to hear Snake talking about holidays for over a hour
4's plot however is deliciously cheesy, it plays pretty straight until a certain point where it gets retarded so it's up to you to decide if you hate the retarded shit or if you love it, and i sure as hell loved it, the main cast's plan for the climax also can't be toped
Yakuza 5 is also cheesy but more like a melodramatic anime, you can tell the developers were on a meeting board going like "What's going to be the theme of this game?" Can any one play this game without having to always use loads of health items? I've never understood the combat in this game and I've played them all except dead souls and the jp only ones
Shit like you break a guard, but can never follow up fast enough to hit them, or they start guarding mid combo. So you grab cos they always guard but the grabs are broken instantly. Bosses always seem to have hyper armor. I enjoy the games but a lot of the time the combat just makes no sense to me

So, in Zero, why did Dojima even go to the trouble of hiring the assassin to frame Kiryu for a murder? What did he stand to gain from that? At this point in time as far as he knew Kiryu was just a useless punk kid and Kazama wouldn't be a problem anyway because he still had his three lieutenants gunning for the Empty Lot while Kazama sat in a cell with or without Kiryu in the picture, so I don't understand what he stood to gain from that little move that set the whole game in motion

I'm at the finale and Majima's spent 90% of my game smoking outside the park.

I'm maxed out at Rank E and the only encounters I did were Officer Majima, finding him under the giant traffic cone, and going bowling with him. I've gotten no new phone calls and the only email I've gotten that I haven't done yet is the one telling me he's at Club Shine(where he isn't because he's too fucking busy "being tired"). After doing the boat fight he sent me an email telling me he didn't care about Shimano's death and to "be ready" for him, but he's still just hanging out by the park like an asshole.
