The only way Nintendo will be able to get third part support for the big cross platform games is if they release a console that is on par with the competition.

The shilling is not as strong as it was for the Wii, but I am pretty baffled when I see my friend's co-workers buying a shitload of Switchs for their office despite them not playing MK8 (i.e. the only multiplayer game that matters on the Switch) on release, it's really weird.

Nintendo's issue, particularly with home consoles, has traditionally been that they make great first-party games but fail to make platforms that people actually want to make/play games on. Why would you choose to play a game on the Wii U over the Playstation, XBox, or PC for any reason other than because you either didn't own one of those or the game wasn't on those platforms? Same goes for 3DS vs Vita, to a lesser extent. In home console hardware since the N64 era Nintendo's continuously had either inferior hardware (or at least been missing a major feature, ie N64 not having CD-ROM,) or just been so far behind in install base that third-parties don't want to bother.

The Switch is probably the first home console they've made since the SNES that people actually want to play third-party games on over any other console, as well as their first home console since the Gamecube that can potentially handle games built for current-gen Playstation/XBox consoles (if only the indie to mid-tier ones.) I'd imagine that assuming the Switch continues to fly off the shelves at the rate it has been we'll see more third-party support for it, particularly from Japanese devs.

I suppose the better way to put it is that many PS4/XBone games punch far enough below the hardware's weight that they can also handle the Switch, primarily because most devs just don't have the budget to push the hardware that much. The Switch would burst into flames if you tried to get it to run a game that threw a lot of money at assets that pushed those consoles to their limits like a modern Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, or Battlefield, sure, but most games aren't in that tier.

Unless something crazy happens like its sales suddenly tanking dramatically or Sony going insane and making a Vita 2 within a year or two pretty much every dev that's been spending the past few years or more making Vita games will have switched to making Switch games, as evidenced by the fact that it's already happening with Guest and Marvelous. Vita+3DS is basically the Switch's floor in terms of audience and third-party support; the real variable is how many of the devs that have traditionally blown off portables entirely will put games on it.

Devs have said the Switch is very easy to develop for, but the thing is that games like in the OP were developed with the Xbone and PS4 specs in mind, to port those to the Switch means working a bit more to optimize them or downgrade some of the graphics

As i understand it they cheapened out and decided to release the game on the smaller cartridge instead of the 32gb one, so the game needs extra space to install some of it's content in order to run properly, like buying it digitally basically. XCX on Wii U did that too, except it was optional to improve loading times, not mandatory
