I'm actually replaying it now after listening to a podcast (The G Club).

I'm playing it European Extreme style with no reflex (restart) or weapons development, just the basic 1 star Wu Pistol and M4. It's a lot of fun and I like it a lot. Throwing magazines to distract guards is somewhat OP though

You're right, Kiefer phoning in ~30 lines really resonated deep within my soul.

This was probably the most film-like story in the entire series. Really liked it for some reason, especially the tone and acting. The pacing is questionable sometimes and the execution of certain scenes is not remarkable, but the way the story portrays the themes, the way characters develop, the way the music and lighting are used in cutscenes and how much body language is used is absolutely fantastic.

I wish the writing was better though. It's been a problem since the beginning of the series. At least in V most exposition scenes are made optional.

More like thinking MGSV doesn't have superior storytelling and writing makes you, if not underage, at least a tasteless gamer who probably only watches capeshit and blockbusters.

Make no mistake, each game in the series is good. But the storytelling in the games before MGSV is at best ok. Over abundance of cutscenes is okay. What Kojima used them for in past games isn't and the dialogue + voice acting was embarrasing in parts. I've recently replayed 3 and it really showed.
