It's not a big fault, but narrative/lore wise it's inconsistent to make it an RPG.
Geralt is supposed to have had decades of experience. Him tripling his power level over a one month aventure always felt off (even worse that it resets every game). This is usually a non issue because the protags are young and follow a more classic hero journey, but age is integral to Geralt's character.

There's only about half of the writers from TW2 credited in TW3. Chiefly of which, the man who was Lead Writer on TW2 & Lead Dialogue on TW1 was gone, and his lack of input is evidently felt. One of the core writers from TW2 is credited as merely an 'additional writer' on TW3, and there's a proper 'Writers' section for 3, so he likely wasn't involved with the main story. Only ONE of the original writers from TW1 wrote for TW3, and that's Marcin Blacha, who was somehow given the Lead Writer position on 3 after having only done 'additional dialogue' for both 1 & 2.

It's obvious there was some severe ineptitude on behalf of the new writers hired to work on TW3, and the lack of carry over of the actual talent from the previous two games, primarily Sebastian Stepien, impacted the story.

Witcher 3 has a lot of dumbed down elements but it's not like the first two games played well anyways, the combat was always jank in these games, it was all about the world and dialogue and lore and decisions, and Witcher 3 still did these pretty well, while also being beautiful and having a great soundtrack and the best side game in an RPG since Triple Triad.

I'm still excited for Cyberpunk when and if it ever comes out.

It's going to be really beautiful in terms of art and music.
It's going to have above the average writing, with some really great and some really not so great moments.
It's going to be WAY too ambitious for the studio, littered with issues, bugs, poor U.I., clearly unfinished or cut segments that the studio will be slowly adressing over the upcoming few years.
It's going to have terrible difficulty balancing and an awful curve.
It's going to completely fall apart in the final few acts.
It's going be still very impressive and memorable, and will keep talking about it for a long time, despite so many objective issues and downfalls.

They attempted to make SFV more casual to entice more players to join in. Most of the writers who worked on The Witcher 1 left before Witcher 2, in fact there was more writers from The Witcher 2 working on Witcher 3 then there was writers working on the second game from the first game. Sebastian Stępień who wrote the dialogues for the first two games was promoted to Creative Director position, so he had actually even more creative control then before.

Sebastian Stepien was the lead writer of Witcher 2, and lead dialogue writer of Witcher. He's the reason Witcher 2 stood out a bit and wasn't generic dogshit fantasy like Witcher 3. He left early in production to work on Cyberpunk, in late 2013. He's credited in the game because he still worked a bit on Witcher 3 in the beginning
