Fire immediately kills all common infected, while doing very little damage to you(in normal difficulty). In fact it's widely used way to free yourself from horde. No way you were stuck in fire unable to move because of zombies

Once the tank spawns, the hordes stop spawning and once you kills(in this case burn) all commons you are free to deal with tank in peace.
Using a bile does nothing but calls a massive horde that will eventually turn onto your team, which is already dealing with tank on top of that.

I preferred the guns, how they looked and animated in L4D1, the dual 1911s sounded better, shooting and reloading. I think every level being night added to the atmosphere, plus only having the piano if I remember correctly? The added stuff in L4D2 was really nice, but I had already played the shit out of the first so maybe I didn't enjoy it as much as others.

The only new infected who didn't do something the originals were capable of was the spitter. The extra guns just complicated things in an unnecessary way. 2 was the sequel that didn't need to happen, they could have easily kept adding expansions to the first, and I'm still upset about the way Valve handled it. Came out a year later and, while they assured everyone the original game wouldn't be forgotten, they only gave it some tie in content and then added the entirety of the game to 2. Thanks for beta testing I guess. It wasn't a bad game by any means but I just can't bring myself to like it. That little footnote of Valve's jewery is forgotten under Team Fortress going to shit at the time.

I think what made L4D1 so memorable is actually the lighting. When you shot a gun, it would flash with an extremely bright light that would like up a large area. You would then see former silhouette infected become flashes of faces, and the effect was actually quite striking. Combine that with the extremely meaty gun sounds and the recoil + gun shake, and it felt like you were emptying a magazine into a terrifying horde of monsters.

In L4D2, they spread the common infected out, so as to make them not die in 2 shots from an auto shotgun. This changed the dynamic though, so that you are now playing shooting gallery with individual infected, rather than desperate frantic shooting against an horde. The extra light didn't help either, since it encouraged the team to reduce the amount of flash and bang on the guns. The result is a rather placid experience - even when you play the L4D1 maps on L4D2, it doesn't quite feel the same.

Personally, the solution to the Autoshotgun problem is to get rid of the bullet penetration (or reduce is drastically), so that it takes a few shots to put a crowd down. The game can then still feel frantic and fun instead of like leisurely target practice.

Melee weapons suffered from the knockback effect they had in a 360 degree arc around your character, which was completely unnecessary and made machete blitzes too easy.

Lot's of problems from L4D2, most of which seem to have stemmed from a change in focus.
