If you consult the original versions of D&D, the average human had 1d6 HPs, or an average of 3.5. We'll round up and say the average human has 4 HP. Taking that into consideration, that means 1 HP would be 1/4th of your life, with the potential to kill you.

Keep in mind that HP was a way to signify if a hit was clean or not, which is why weapons did variable damage like 1d6 or 1d8. It wasn't that a Short Sword or Long Sword were any less effective in severing limbs, it's just that a Long Sword had a more steady rate of killing people in a single blow than a short sword as (according to the game designers). Like wise, true to real life, a Knife, doing 1d4 damage, has to be aimed very properly to kill someone on the first blow, and usually takes several stab wounds to get the job done.

I wish more games used this system, it would add a huge amount of depth and strategy just by being there.
>>
>>389254942
None of the above.
HP=/=Meat points.
HP is more a vague quantification of plot armor.
>>
>>389256574
Don't get your hopes up. It's not like >>389256602 is wrong in their statement. The fact of the matter is that even in oldschool D&D, HPs would eventually turn into "plot armor", or in actuality a representation of stamina and luck. The average human in the example I listed would be a completely classless human or a Thief or Cleric class. Fighters started with a d8, and all classses got more HP as they leveled up to represent their ability to block and parry.

It especially becomes worse in later editions of D&D where they lose sight of the meaning of their own mechanics. Even if they didn't, they bend all of the rules to make it "safe" for the players. Because god forbid they allow players to feel bad and let their character die.

Fun anecdote, I took some modern TRPG gamers through an oldschool retroclone once and most of them got insanely butthurt despite the handouts I was giving them because they weren't used to actually having to think through the dungeon as opposed to just roll for everything until it goes away.

Edging for twelve hours and then cumming from a seated position. Your limbs will lock up, your vision will darken as your head feels heavy, you won't be able to breath.
>>
>>389257243
Maybe you should just see a doctor and lose some weight.

>>389257403

You have no idea. I mean REAL edging, as in idle masturbation for twelve hours but not cumming until it's all pent up.

>>
>>389257109
When I say I like that system I meant giving humans a 1d6 and that's it, getting more hp would be a matter of buffing up your armor (As in chain adding another 1d4 survival chance, but plate giving something like 1d8).

1 hp of damage is something inconsequential unless you're at your weakest.

Best example I can think of is having dysentery when badly dehydrated- diarrhea ain't shit on its own, but when you're in terrible condition it will push you over the edge.

Yeah, I agree that I like the idea of people getting actual meat points that never actually increase, but the only way to really incorporate that would be to give them actual meat points and then specific rules on how you attack meat points over Hit Points, and unfortunately, I don't think many people are keen on that idea anymore.

Loosening a large portion of your cranium.

The head injury will make you extremely instable. If you stumble or fall down the nerve threads attached to your brain will be severed along with your cranium exposing your brain and killing you.

Sorry, didn't see you until just now.

Poison in oldschool D&D was rough as balls. If you got hit with a poison attack, you made a Saving Throw vs Poison which was a static number on your character sheet that went down as you leveled up. If you failed to roll higher than this number, you died. No poison damage. No stat damage. No temporary damage. You. Die. If you're a level 10 fighter that has a 2 in your Save Vs. Poison, and you roll a 1? Tough shit, reroll your character.

Who cares about that? It was badly designed. I'm talking about how hit points are supposed to be plot armor when it comes to poison.

That's the thing though. They're not. Up until 3rd edition, poison was never a damage type, nor was it meant to interact with HP at all. In the good editions of D&D, it kills you. In 3rd edition, it usually interacts with one of your stats and lowers it temporarily, such as constitution. Modern day TRPGs turn it into a straight up damage type, which you could probably make the after-market excuse of "it drains your stamina", but in my opinion, that doesn't make a lot of sense in the long run due to higher level characters being able to shrug off the damage more consistently.
