After the other disastrous conferences they probably thought it wasn't worth showing their big stuff when there's nothing to compete against. Certain thing were integrated into the conference where it would be troublesome to remove them, e.g, they had a live musician for the Horizon Dawn DLC reveal, but everything else was just a video played with zero commentary or introduction from the presenters.
