I don't have the funding.

Crowdfunding isn't even an option, since I'm an unknown. More importantly, a lot of the big name crowd funding sites aren't available to people from my region.

I've tried going to banks to see if I could get a loan, but the amount of money I'd need and the amount of money I can get just don't match up at all. I've also tried asking around with investors of all different types, but video game isn't an appealing platform to invest in unless you're in China or Korea, apparently.

I've hit a gigantic wall and I'm not sure how to climb it. It's tormenting me on the inside, and I've been getting nightmares because of it. Forget about being able to sleep right, I've hit that point where when I'm awake I just hear voices in the back of my head wherever I go.

I don't like the idea of giving up, but I've exhausted all my options at this point and I'm not financially stable enough to continue on my own.

As someone who actually really likes One Piece, taking story ideas from it is ill advised, the show's strengths are in its lovable characters and the world's consistency so things feel like they actually matter, but the plot points themselves aren't very original.

I'm not working on a game, just a mod. I have enough experience and years of documentation and tutorials available for Source, so I assume it shouldn't be insanely hard to try to get into it.
I plan for it to just be a third person melee game where you're Gordon Freeman fucking stuff up with a crowbar kind of in the gameplay style of something like NMH or God Hand.

>>
>>389250472
Looking back at it, I think I made one of the least interesting games in the world. I think that's probably why I wasn't able to get anyone hooked onto it or any investors onboard.

Basically, it was a science fiction roleplaying game. Sessions were meant to mirror pen and paper role playing games, in a sense that each playthrough could be completed in 3~5 hours, but the results would be wildly different each time you played.

The basic setting didn't change, but how you interacted with that setting and how it reacted to you was designed in a way that subsequent runs of the game wouldn't end up like the first unless you specifically save-scummed your way into it.

>>389251230
Initially, that's what I did, but free assets can only take you so far.

A lot of the free assets currently available in the market are by people who are just trying to pad out that portfolio and create an advertising format for themselves. A sort of "If you like this, then commission me!" situation where you're stuck picking up their leftovers and spending an insane amount of hours on it reworking it into something usable.

I respect that there's a lot of free content you can use out there, but at the same time I understand that if it was actually good and worth using then it probably wouldn't be free.

If I really wanted to make this game commercially viable, I'll need to start hiring artists and musicians and they don't come cheap.

>>
>>389253823
you could always just improve anon, its not like you're born with a set limit of how good you draw, its also cute, if kinda uninspired.

>>
>>389255798
super minimal so not 1:1. I just wanted to make a really simple version of the mining shit genre with only a few tools and weapons. terraria has a ton of features that aren't worth adding at this scale like painting wires ect.
>>
>>389256135
I mean I'd just finish it anyway if its gonna be a simple version of that genre, even if you don't release it you'd get the experience and you may even find a new way to make your sprite work more appealing in movement.

I did make bigger sprites ages ago but my issue is that if I were to go this big I wouldn't be able to sprite or animate the enemies or characters because I have virtually zero artistic sense.
>>
>>389256645
"artistic sense" isn't real you fucking mong, it's called learning to draw. If you want to make good art you have to learn.
>>
>>389256645
I don't know your life so I can't just say "then learn some animation". However if you genuinely enjoyed working on that game and there's time to kill at any point for you in the week, sit down and learn to animate anon, the resources are out there.

I'm not >>389259873 but people like this don't usually have actual interest in making games, just playing them. This is the case for me, I like fleshing game ideas out but I've tried my hand at making games and I don't enjoy it.

>>389260709
That's more akin to modding games, not making them. Plenty of people download mods for their games, just like plenty of people buy car parts to mod their cars. However, most people don't make their cars or car parts from scratch, just like people don't make games from scratch.

I get these great idea's to make a game, but I can't seem to make them into reality. I started getting into UE4 as my first engine, and I learned quite a lot in just two weeks of practice. But then I stagnated. I don't seem to have the artistic ability to create anything above a elementary level-design. I also have trouble keeping blueprint designs in my head. Simple things, like which blueprint node is it that makes WASD and mouse look work again? I mean, sure, maybe it takes a while to get this stuff to stick, but that's half the problem, I get too impatient with myself even though I want to make something I love.

Plus replication just boggles my mind and frustrates the shit out of me when it doesn't work like I think it should.
