Alright? What's the issue with it not being a tedious quip-fest like marvel shit, or a groan-inducing series of plots like what we had from Colors-Lost World? Why can't it just be a straight serious plot? Just because you don't feel comfortable taking a series seriously because the protagonists are anthropomorphic animals, doesn't mean that audience should just be entirely shut out.

At the end of the day; beyond the "hedgehog" aspect of it, sonic has always been rather anime-esque in its style and tone and this takes proper advantage of that rather than ignoring it out of some weird misplaced insecurity in the franchise direction, possibly driven by reviewers and youtubers making half-assed attempts to figure out what made the franchise go to hell; when ultimately it was just that SEGA was making shit games from 2005-2010 rather than any matter of presentation or narrative.

Going over the edge is better because that way the target audience and autists can take it seriously while everyone else can laugh at how dumb it is

06's plot was actually not all terrible. Shadow's narrative specifically was pretty good at getting his character back on track after his own game hurt it so badly (and the friendship shown between the team dark members in general was rather nice) and Silver's was passable, although it wasted some of the opportunities it had to really develop Silver more thoroughly.

The only really bad part of 06's narrative was Sonic's portion since in addition to not really fitting with the overarching narrative, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles act probably the least in-character out of the whole cast and Elise herself is the least developed major character in the entire game in both her basic characterization and her relationships with the other characters.

Classic Sonic was the worst part of Generations though and Sonic Team's proven time and again that they can't do 2D without making it a momentum-less slog (Lost World, Colors, Generations, Unleashed).

They really should just ditch classic sonic and bring back other characters to go through sonic's 3d levels with their own abilities added in to add replayability. Hell, Blaze even started off the boost trend, but we haven't played as her since fucking Rush Adventure.
