Start with Zero Mission. It has mostly optional markers for where you need to go if you need it, it's not that difficult, and has lots of opportunities for you to jump the track and do things out of order. It's also a remake of the original, so it's first chronologically. It's really fun to play.

You know, I think that ESA is game with a lot of missed potential. Especially how the dev totally fucked up the plot.

So, the idea behind ESA is that it's going to be a mystery; you're going to discover why the station is all fucked up. Well, it's all well and good, but the game doesn't actually do anything to string you along with the mystery, it just tells you where to go next. About a third of the way through the game, the mystery is revealed without much buildup, and then for the entire rest of the game, nothing happens with the plot. The closest you get to a narrative is you have the villain monologue at you in a way that doesn't really advance the plot or create any sense of intrigue, and it stays that way up until the bad end cinematic, where there's a cheap twist.

And then there's the postgame. The postgame has this great sense of intrigue and awe to it, but it has nothing to do with the main game, so it's basically pointless.

I also didn't like the Norfair run they make you do to get the second powerup in the game. I mean, it wasn't super hard or anything, but what the hell did that accomplish?

Fusion is only "good" tier? Are you fucking retarded? Currently doing playthrough again and it's fucking incredible. It's amazing how many new things they implemented into the series. Zero Mission is nostalgia pandering and just remake. It's really good remake but still less creative. Fusion takes place in the farthest future of the series. The gameplay is godlike and costume redisign is one of the best iconic costume redisigns in video games up to date. Not even mentioning outstanding art direction and beautiful backdrops which defy GBA capabilities.

Every Metroid game is linear even Super Metroid. It's still Metroidvania but more linear and cinematic attempt. It's crazy how underrated this game is compared to Zero Mission which steals the spotlight only because of nostalgia pandering.
