The Souls-like combat, or at least something that isn't whack-a-mole but actual gameplay combat, should spice things up enough to make combat more fun.

When they claimed they drew inspiration from role playing games, I was hoping for an active party of followers that you can choose from. What they actually meant was MMO like elements. Which is also good. The first thing I did in Syndicate was cheesed battles against higher level enemies and took over territories.
