Debatable, at best. Fallout, PS:T, Baldur's Gate are all a lot deeper in roleplaying depth than post 2004 RPGs. You could say their graphics and isometric style and gameplay are dated, which is kind of true for many people. But even the aRPG genre peaked first with Deus Ex (gameplay diversity) and then with VTMB (gameplay and writing diversity). Some attempts at reaching VTMB's depth have taken place, I'd say the closest is New Vegas, and Witcher 2 regarding the great writing. But both of those don't come close in the end.

So no, some RPGs haven't "aged" or at least "aged badly" because the younger ones aren't as deep.

If you thought it would be it's your own fault, you're directly told during the tutorial that you need to learn how to use weapons because you'll eventually have to fight.

A pure mage character could be managed with Animalism though at least for non-supernatural enemies. Spectral wolf is insta kill and so is the bat attack. Spam the wolf and then the bats to a different enemy, so you get all of the blood back after the bats return and you can use the combo again, taking out 2 enemies per use. It's absurdly powerful.

Not sure if you're joking but I played Malk the first time and mostly enjoyed it. On my second playthrough I played Malk again though, and enjoyed it even more. I got to experience the "hard to understand, not really making sense" side and also the "whoa how did I miss that" side. I stilled played the rest of the clans and enjoyed it just as much though.

Gonna play as Malk again soon. Haven't played one for a long time. I was kind of afraid to.

vtmb has great aesthetics (which is unintentional due to engine limitations), good writing for the medium it's in, good setting overall and the atmosphere captures the late 90s/early oughts romanticism quite well, if it ever existed.

also see movies like lost boys, near dark, interview with the vampire for the cultural fix you need. if you spent those years playing barely functional vtmb (pre-mods) on your athlon and silent hill 2 on your trinitron crt between vampirefreaks hookops you'd know why it aged well. memories often do, and bloodlines is a perfectly conserved fragment of a different time, made by a dead developer. main writer and designer, mitsoda, went on to marry a tumblr incarnate and is but a zombie today. age makes demons of us all...

(but considering most people here are in their early 20s, it's hard to have a discussion about vmtb or the real deus ex).

Yes. The plus version of the Unofficial Patch adds a shortcut I've heard, but I don't use the plus version so I'm not entirely sure how it works.
