Why /v/ doesn't like esport?
>>
/v/ doesn't like any kind of sport
>>
>>389238831
because /v/ fucking sucks at video games
>>
>>389238890
Sitting in front of a computer is not a sport.

Watching other people play video games is stupid. Paying to go to an arena to sit in uncomfortable plastic seats next to a bunch of sweaty nerds just to watch some losers play video games is absolutely fucking retarded.

Nu-/v/ is pro-casual, anti-hardcore. Pro-AAA, anti-indie. Pro-console, anti-PC.

Nobody said it was, retard.

So going to stadium to see people playing football is stupid?

Sitting in front of a chess board isn't sport either then. But it is. Also e-sports is official in Russia. You can even get a fucking master of sports title just like runners or swimmers or whatever. Get fucked faggot.
>>
>>389238831
It's mostly that the "culture" surrounding it is fucking awful. Not to mention the games that are popular eSports are games that /v/ supposedly hates: newest AAA shooters or MOBA garbage.
>>
>>389238831
Console fps games shouldn't be an esport.
>>
>>389239280
Same with people going to the US to compete in tournaments, they get the same temporary visas or w/e as football players.
>>
>>389238831
We don't even like ourselves. How can we like other people who like watching games?

We've had threads for every match of the ASL brood war tournament for the last two years, and korea time threads have been a thing on /v/ since like 2007. They're great.

It's not so much disliking esports, it's disliking watching esports that aren't very fun to watch.
>>
I liked it when it was about good games like Q3 or Warcraft 3. Now its all dull trash like MOBA and fucking Hearthstone

Too much money involved,
Too many developers focus on the multiplayet aspect of games rather than making a likable single player experiance that I love and cherish.

It's turning the industry into a souless buirocrat filled money producing machine that appeals to the lowest common denominations.

>>
>>389240294
It's not very difficult to understand, though very difficult to actually play. As long as you learn what the units on each side do, you can get a good idea of what's going on. The depth comes from the mindgames and strategies players try against eachother, how much one player knows of the other's strategy, etc.

If you want to watch, the major tournament starts next sunday, this time. the english cast is usually pretty friendly to new viewers as well.

i love esports.
I even traveled to L.A for a few days from Australia to watch Worlds champs of league of legends last year.

>>
>>389238831
I don't hate esports I just hate what games are now esports. Fighting games are literally the only games fun to watch as a spectator.
>>
>>389240294
You only need to study like half an hour to understand all the game. Macroing and playing fine its more complex, requires practice, but you dont need to be a pro to see esports
>>
>>389238831
because /v/ is not good enough to win, and not good enough to earn lots of cash by playing videogames
>>
>>389239210
yes
>>
>>389238831
So why did they decide to change ‘competitive gaming’ to ‘esports’?
>>
>>389242673
When marketing people took over.
>>
>>389239504
CSGO is still popular and it is kinda old.
>>
>>389238831
it's a reminder of their crippling mediocrity. /v/ would love to make money playin gaems but because the prospect is so out of reach they need to invalidate esports in order to cope
>>
>>389240294

It's not that hard. The ASL tournament that has been going for the past year now has English casting and they're pretty good at giving info what's happening. Also the new remastered version has supply counts and resources available to the spectator so it makes more easy to understand who has the lead in the game.
>>
Competitive gaming isn't a sport.
Neither is racing cars.
They're competitive disciplines, but they will never be a sport.
>>
>>389244831
So what defines a sport to you then
>>
>>389244895
sport

spɔːt/

noun

1.

an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

There must be some athleticism involved, some physical exertion. Moving your wrists and thumbs isn't athleticism.
>>
There's no esports for disabled people, because even disabled people can play on the same level.
It's not a sport and never will be.
>>
>>389245096
So what disqualifies motor racing?
>>
>>389245096
so driving for 5-10 hours in a race car isn't " involving physical exertion"

Playing a computer game for days on end to become near perfect at it isn't " involving physical exertion"
>>
>>389245326
No, it isn't. Youre only as good as your car.
Playing games days on end isn't physical exertion, you don't burn any calories playing games.
>>
>>389238831
because many devs cater their games to this kind of audience in the vain hope that it will become anywhere near as popular as dota2 or something and in the process alienate their fanbases. many a franchise has been ruined by going the "esports aka wider audience" route
>>
>>389245401
Oh ignorance then. I figured as much.
>>
>>389239098
Watching other people play videogames instead of playing them yourself is the opposite of hardcore.
>>
>>389245510
>No retort
I'm glad you concede.
PS: I'm on esports earnings, ive won prize money in sizable tournaments. Its fucking cringe when shitters like yourselves try to push it as a sport. It's not, I've lived it, along with competitively swimming and badminton, it will never be a sport.

>All while /v/ loves to complain about all these new casual games that require no skill
>But actually cry like a baby whenever a game does require skill for PvP and call it a shit, casual, boring, flavor of the month game

Does it really surprise you? This place is a fucking shithole full of no-skill faggots. Even reddit has more video game skill than this pile of crap. People are even shitting up Quake Champions after pretending that Quake 3 was the greatest competitive game ever. Now that the genre is easily accessible and more popular, suddenly /v/ hates it.

Extreme mental taxation for hours and hours on end. Much of the body's resources go to heightened senses and reactions. Extreme physical taxation after a certain number of hours, given how long these races can last and having to be at peak mental capacity for hours leads to the body getting tired. Extreme heat conditions inside the vehicle.

honestly, yes.

In the same time I would watch some stinky muscley men pushing each other while passing around handegg, I could waste it by actually playing with other muscley men pushing each other while passing around handegg.

It's sorta ironic that I'm being called anti-social when I rather participate in sports than watching sports.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to watch the best of the best do something. You can play pickup games and still marvel at what pros can do
>>
Anyone who thinks there is no physical exertion involved in esports needs to play a 8-hour high level scrim and tell me how their nervous system feels at the end of it.
>>
>>389239002
Typing an opinion on an anonymous image board doesn't mean your opinion is valid either.

Mainly because it brings the chads and other normies into our hobby. LAN party is fine, but once you start putting it on tv your just an attention seeking faggot which goes against the 4chan culture.

Dota is the devil no matter which one you think it is.
>>
>>389246948
It's not surprising that it's exciting to play super high levels of competitive games. I don't think it is anything like a real sport, though, which can actually carry your physiology to pretty great heights, while you're not going to boost your health that much playing 8 hours of scrims. Lots of intense non-sport activities are out there that will wear you down after 8 hours.
>>
>>389247001
>Hmm, who should I believe.
Why don't you figure it out for yourself instead of being a dipshit?
>>
>>389238831
it ruined league of legends
>>
>>389239280
>Also e-sports is official in Russia.
That might be enough to convince a lot of dumb people out there, but countries have a pile of reasons to promote any kind of popular tournament like this. Tournaments make cash flow and create lots of interception points to leech money, all over very little (especially in the case of esports).
>>
>>389238831
It's forced most of the time
>>
>>389249352
Still mad that they killed the actual interesting lore and backstory of the game to focus on streamlining shit for eports.
>>
>>389250246
wut, the story of the game is better than ever with the whole universe stuff, now there's comics and nice readings
>>
>>389251595
Haven't played in years but I left shortly after the deleted the Journal of Justice and retconned the whole concept of summoners.
>>
>>389238831
Monetization of a hobby to make it appeal to competition isn't a bad thing, but it's a bad thing with videogames because people are pussies:
>People want to feel good about winning.
>"Well, I guess that means 1v1 is out since people will not like getting thier assholes caved-in by better players -- we'll make the format team-based so people can assign losses to their teammates and other external factors without taking personal responsibility."
>People want to feel like they're competent players.
>"Well, I guess that means technical skill is out -- people will not like getting thier assholes caved-in because a dragon punch is considered 'artificially difficult barrers'. I guess we'll make the 'skill' about remembering a metagame/team-composition/etc, that way invalids that can't even use a keyboard are skillcapped and even novices can join international professional competition in a year or two due to diminished skill ceiling."
etc, etc.
>>
>>389238831
I would only consider a game "sporting" if it actually tests the abilities of players themselves, rather than their characters/avatars/etc.

Classless shooter = sporting
Class shooter = not sporting
And so on.

Give me early Halos, all-Soldier Overwatch, stock-car Rocket League, or any other game where the individual's skill alone is the determining factor. I'd even include something like 9v9 1-of-each-class TF2 or other structured teamplay, wherein players have defined positions, but you'd need to set hard limits on something like League of Legends before I'd consider it sporting.

Seems like most people use the term "e-sport" in a pretty loose fashion to refer to competitive, prize-staked multiplayer.
