It depends on whether or not you want to deal with some of the inherent issues of the NES version like buying only a single item at a time and needing to save a second time after using a house to recover your magic. On that note, the magic system hadn't evolved into MP use, either, which can be a hard pill to swallow for some.

Still, the NES version is pretty solid. The GBA version is a good second, but you'll have to change a few settings and skip the bonus dungeons if you want the vanilla experience.
