Chose Selene on my first playtrough. Went, or at least tried going (fuck the affinity system), with jewtits in every subsequent one.
She kinda just grew on me over time and after I got around to doing all her easily missed quests and read up her backstory.

Besides, it felt pretty shitty to give the arisen's bond to Selene after she just became human and got her free will.
I get both of them living in my shitty two-room fisherman house in the end anyway though so its a win-win.

Two issues that I see, both relating to the same thing
The bestowal of spirit
First, between you and your pawn. There's only one soul. Originally yours, but upon your death can become theirs. This is how a pawn becomes a real person
Second is that over time a pawn will change to become more like the arisen, inside and out. So the pawn you love, even if you stay with her and avoid the dragon for millenia, she'll just be you, this can only end well with extreme narcissism

It does have a good story.

The problem is the middle of the game, until you reach the Dragon and have more encounters with him and Senechal. There's a lot of nifty stuff to be found between the lines and just generally wandering the world. But too many people see the emptiness of the world, monsters aside, and think there's nothing but one or two encounters worthy of mention.

Like some guy here bitched about BBI and how nothing was explained, while he skipped out on the Monument of Remembrance.
