Play through Ultimate Doom then Doom 2. Doom 1's Episode 4 came out after Doom 2, but can be played whenever. 2 Is more or less an expansion pack of Doom 1.

Doom 3 is a pretty strong departure, with very mixed opinions.

In terms of effectiveness in universe? No, the ODST suit is pretty much a futuristic, but still grounded in reality spec ops suit. It's got some ballistic protection, has a limited amount of self supplying air supply for space combat, and has pouches/compartments for supplies and some high tech logistical/operational stuff built into the helmet and other electronics, but it's not power armor or anything.

Just really sexy normal armor.

Do Ultimate Doom first , it's the first one with all four episodes, then Doom 2. You either have the Doom 3 or the BFG edition, the difference is in BFG is you don't have to swap a gun for a flashlight to see and the expansion is bundled in.

The BFG edition also has Doom 1 and 2 but I'm not sure if it's Ultimate Doom for 1.

The new Doom is probably more to what you're used to but it's an alright game.

biggest gripe of doom4 is the automap/worldmap is terrible compared with original doom. i know it's because of y axis level design but im not super fond of that either.

doom 5 should be good its the only franchise that i haven't totally given the middle finger to. let us hope

The old school Gears (before Gears 4) were pumped full of a million kinds of steroids and boosters and were fed 3 times more rations to make them fuck huge to withstand being injured and be strong enough on the battlefield to fight the Locusts. So am I the only one that felt like DOOM was like a Metroid Prime game in a few ways? The opened areas felt like Prime rooms, the combat and bosses kind of reminded me of Prime in how they were all fairly dodge-able and very much movement based, and the platforming segments felt fairly Prime like. I mean they're both very different but I feel like a small comparison can be made.
