it was meant to provide precise analog controls with a lot of throw, without having to take your hands off the rest of the controls unlike the other crappy 3rd party analog controllers of the time which featured jog dials acting as the steering wheel. back then sony had no official analog controller yet. it also had analog buttons as well. this controller was porn for racing games, and super easy to use. it gets a second nature to twist the side of the controller forward the direction you want to go, and if you need a lot more throw you can additionally twist the opposite side back to increase the twisting range, without having to turn your wrists to much, it was super fast as well, i dare to say, faster and more precise than these days analog joysticks. namco really should make a new version of this.
