PS2 games then PS3 then 0 as a fanservice treat. A lot of people seem to miss this, but 0 is a fanservice game. Don't believe anyone who says otherwise. If you start with 0 you'll miss a lot of neat shit the game has to offer if you're a long time fan some 0fags even mistook people that appeared in later games because they look alike or some shit, don't be like this and the games get progressively worse and worse as it is the high point of the mainline games. So treat yourself to the series and be careful you don't burn yourself out, especially at the 3-4 mark.

Your choice. There's two entryways at this point for newcomers.
>1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 0, Kiwami, 6, Kiwami 2.
This requires a PS2 or a decent computer to emulate the first two games (Unless you can read Japanese in which case you get 1&2HD on PS3), a PS3, and a PS4.
>0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
This only requires a PS3 and PS4 but you're going to be waiting on Kiwami 2 to come out if you don't want to jump down to the PS2 version of 2.

The former is the release order and shows you how the series has advanced over the years in terms of both gameplay and features. The start is rough around the edges but the jump from 1 to 2 is pretty big and so is the one from 2 to 3. If you have the time I would recommend this way because it's great to see the game advance, but if that's not your prerogative then that's fine. Kiwami and Kiwami 2 also don't need to be played in this order if you're only doing it to follow the story.

The latter is the more modern order. You start with 0 and then go into Kiwami and Kiwami 2 which expect you to be a new player starting from 0 before jumping down to the PS3 games. While the jump down to the PS3 games isn't going to be as severe as something like Kiwami to 2 or 0 to 1 it'll still take some getting used to. Keep in mind if you start with 0 you're going to be starting with years of quality of life already made and you're going to miss some fanservice (The fan kind, not the sexy kind) meant for people coming from all the later games, however you gain a different perspective on certain events that happen in the later games as well so it's a different experience I can't comment on.

However you choose is up to you, I'm for release order but you can't force someone into it so just make the choice you see fit.

Quite a lot. 6 won't really make sense to you since the story is a direct follow up to 6 and you will have no clue what the whole beginning Okinawa part of 6 is all about either. If you're set on playing 1 and 2 then play 1 and 2 and see how you like the series. If you like them then either get 0 or a PS3. 3, 4, and 5 are fun, Kenzan is great fun (Especially if you manage to play it after 2 since you'll see all the improvements it brought to the series once you play 3), and Dead Souls is fun. They all offer you new stuff, 3 is the only one that's kinda on its own since the only thing 4 and 5 really reference from it is the orphanage and Kiryu's life there. Every new character it had aren't around in 4 and 5.

What's a cheese tactic against boss fights with lots of HP that doesn't involve special heat finishers? For example, A and S tier Majima fights have at least 3 or 4 bars of HP and sometimes the only way to do a Heat finisher is with Dragon, which obviously isn't unlocked until SSS Majima. So I need to find another way to chip off his massive health.

My strat so far is to build Heat from Rush attacks and then switch to Dragon + weapon for ez Heat move. But it's not fast enough to deal damage against HP regen. Again, you can't get past it because the unlock for Dragon Heat Finisher is one of the LAST things you can unlock. As for weapon Heat attacks, Katana-type weapons seem to be the best considering heat attacks under dragon don't consume durability. So all that matters is that you use a good katana at that point, if that even changes the amount of damage per heat move.

IMO they've aged well, and having experience with the combat really gives you an edge when playing the first game. I felt more agile after having marathoned all the games, then revising the first game after a year, I was basically a pro.

I can clear that up. You need to have 3000 points by the fu x 2^(2+han) calculation. Getting a Mangan automatically gives you 8000 points (or 12000 if you're the dealer) but it's not the same as having a "natural" 3000 points. As other anons have mentioned, a closed hand would have given you enough points for a Haneman though.

Only thing that changes is EXP gained, enemies prior to 5 defeated by Heat Actions give you more EXP than just punching them to death. In 5 they changed it up by requiring different things for EXP (Shinada needs to defeat someone with weapons, Akiyama with Launch Kicks, etc). Money and items are always based off type of enemy + quantity of enemies with rare drops like Platinum Plates being completely random.

For Amon it's just tons of nonsense like missable substories out the ass and making a mistake in any of your choices locks you out of him in that playthrough, but he's worth it since he's such an involved boss fight and cheesing him is quite tough. For main story it's really easy for a non-Japanese speaker since KHH did an entire video walkthrough of the main story including cutscenes.

People always go on about Ishin, but I reckon Kenzan was just as great, if not a little more because it had a more mystical aura to it being set so far back. The match girl easter egg subquest had me in tears, honestly.
