Its honestly the only game that I ever played that was totally convincing in it's seams. You can't push on the edges or feel like your playing a game- everything loops and sprawls into these infinite wanderings and also hyper specific scripted events, that totally disorient and wow you and make you deeply depressed playing it. I wish there was a walking simulator in 3d that was as creative and complete as Yumi Nikki. Gone Home, Old City Leviathan, and Mind Path to Thalamus all feel painfully unfinished and creatively cliche compared to the amazing work of one person in RPG maker. Their definitely beautiful, but whats it worth if the game is only 45 minutes long with no replayable mystery.

I agree as well. Yume Nikki is something that probably won't be done again for a while. It's simple but there's an atmosphere that can only come from the mind of one person. At least until some other person comes along and decides to make something similar.

Ironically, I felt that constant looping, open world style was really detrimental to Yume Nikki's level design. I feel like the areas that are confined but more detailed end up being more memorable and enjoyable to visit than the areas that are open and just objects sprawled over a black background

yume nikki is still an all-time favorite for me. no dialogue, no convoluted story or complex mechanics, just pure atmosphere and exploration.

I've played a lot of them. Most enjoyable ones were .flow, 2kki, and LCDDEM. LCDDEM is worth playing for the music alone.

i hate how yume nikki is popular now with hipsters and little youtube lets play children

like 10 years ago i used to love introducing it to my friends and letting them play it and seeing them experience it for the first time

now everyone i know has some knowledge of it and everything that needs to be said about it has already been said (ex. uboachan)

i dont see a point in discussing a game like this anymore because its only so deep. i really want to experience something like yume nikki again for the first time but none of the fangames do it for me.

im not shitting on this thread or yume nikki's current fans who actually enjoy the game, im just expressing my disappoint of having to move on from it

I dunno how you got this impression. From what I've seen, YN is still pretty obscure and not a whole lot of Youtube cancer has played it. There are definitely a few hipsters but the YN fanbase is honestly pretty chill.

The real shitshow happens if Markiplier or Pewdiepie get ahold of it.

Not him, but I kinda hated that game. Too linear, too much fake freedom of progression, not enough variety in environment, no NPCs of any kind, and a somewhat unsatisfying ending only gated by the game's sparse puzzles and the final "boss."

Coolest part is when you arrive at the desert near the end and experience that neat musical number. Very surreal and entertaining, and, granted, the environments were at least pretty, if not very diverse.

2kki is great, but for some reason the colored tiles in the Cyber maze won't show up for some reason. I can't navigate in it at all, which bums me out because it leads to interesting areas.

Playing on 0.105g if someone knows any remedies.
