Because I'm not totally sure I want to start again from scratch before World. How the connection with Jap players? Is the lag horrible?

I fucking hate the story-centric garbage of 4 and X. I'm replaying 4U, and I can't stand it.
I just want to slam monsters in the fucking face, not go talk to every asswipe all across the world just to fucking take on actual quests. Fuck that.

MH should always be: -one- village and -one- online hub, all quests obtained through progression without any need to talk to any shitbag villagers/NPCs, no unnecessary NPCs to begin with (looking at you, -literally- everyone from fucking 4), NO FUCKING CUTSCENES, let the player skip the pointless monster intros that will regrettably always be included and always keep getting worse, all farming/trading/cat-training bullshit available from the bedroom without needing to go track down the NPC for bonuses, able to skip straight to results of eating without wasting 10 seconds every damn time to show the hunter gobbling lunch, let the player be able to do decorations/talismans/whatever else from the start without the need for (again) NPC bullshit. The last one is a bit of a gimme, but if we could do it just fine before, why should it suddenly be "locked" away now? "Oh, but the casuals will be overwhelmed!" Fuck the casuals. That's why Stories exists.

I liked them before 4.
4 had decent ones, but got tedious far too soon and ended with you mounting almost every fucking time. The ones where you didn't should have just been fucking skip-able right from the start (LOOKING RIGHT AT YOU, JHEN, YOU FUCKING PILE OF SHIT)
