That being said, what you are describing us a glitch and it's one I've encountered a few times. Sonic is supposed to sink in the oil but for whatever reason he falls straight through when the platforms are pulled.

Artificial Difficulty basically just means difficulty that is put into the game that requires knowledge of it in order to avoid/overcome it. So if its your first run of the game, you have no way of avoiding it because you have no knowledge of it. And theres no skill or reaction time on your part that can save you.

I dunno, I kinda gotta side with OP because there is literally no indication that the entire fucking floor is gonna drop out from under you into instadeath if this is the first time you've played the fight. Unless two tentacles grabbing the stage is somehow a clear indicator of "I should stand right between the two tentacles". For all the player knows at that point it could be an instant death where you get chomped in its teeth while the rest of the stage is safe.
I mean it's definitely one of those "fool me once" kind of scenarios so it's not a big deal at all, but it's still kind of a dick move.

Also the boss in Oil Ocean 2 was harder as Knuckles because it's a lot harder to get back on the platforms. As Sonic I just bounced on top of the rising turrets and took them out in like two turns. Overall he's not a hard boss, I just think people don't realize you can break the turrets.

I genuinley don't understand how people are having such a hard time with Sonic. The Vinny stream of Sonic 3 is also a huge wake up that the majority of people that dislike classic Sonic are probably just bad at it.

I got almost all the medals, just don't panic, don't jump, and try to "go with the flow" many time the stage directs you to the blue spheres, wandering around too much wastes time and can doom you.

Avoid yellow spheres unless you absolutely have to use them, most stages will allow you to move around in only one direction (clockwise) but a few of them want you to alternate left and right but it should be obvious when you encounter those exceptions.

In the cutscene after the Green Hill boss, Eggman seems to be angry at the Heavies and has to take the Ruby from Shinobi by force. It looks like they don't want to listen to Robotnik anymore.

Even before finding this out, I still assumed this could have been the case. It seems like more of a semi-final zone where you rematch all the heavies and then have a climactic battle against Heavy King himself for the end of it, especially since the zone's even called Titanic Monarch. Go through the top left warp in the main "hub" and go to the right & a little bit down, you'll find it easily. Also I just realized the area is from the Time Attack though, not sure if that's why it's there at all or what but pressing it ends the act and leads you to the boss room as if it was a new act.

Check off both the insta-shield marks in Cheat Engine. Then go to No Save > Secrets > and select CD Ability and when you start the game you should have all three abilities. There's a check mark in the Cheat Table for Peel Out but it didn't work for me so this is what I had to do but it worked perfectly.

If you mean in Mania normally, you have to unlock it by clearing a few Blue Spheres bonus stages from the checkpoints, then go to a No Save option in the file select and open up the secrets menu. Lets you toggle between Drop Dash (Mania), Super Peel-Out (CD), and Insta-Shield (3&K).

If you mean the Insta Shield itself, it wraps Sonic in a shield attack for half a second that expands his attack range beyond his jump and lets him phase through certain attacks and projectiles without harm. There's a reason why Japan calls it the "Double Spin Attack" (W in Japan by itself usually means Double for its context)

I beat Sonic Mania in less than 3 hours, while working throufh a bottle of whisky in-between zones.

Dunno about that (I heard he sampled from some rocket launch video or something) but he actually did both the Act 1 and Act 2 raps in Metallic Madness. In his stream of the game he said he was a fledgling rapper when he was a teenager before he got into music making. That stream was super interesting as an insight into what he thinks about his own soundtrack and such and I recommend you watching it. Made a ton of money in donations as well bless 'em.

Seriously, Mania is like the easiest classic Sonic game. I have no idea how people are struggling with it so much. I've died a couple times during my couple of playthroughs I've done so far, but I almost never drop below 10 lives so I never even come close to hitting a game over. I don't get how people are dying so much, it's like they refuse to recognize patterns and just run headfirst into everything.

I died in Chemical Plant standing on the last set of 4 rotating platforms as the 2 split platforms circled on top of me. I didn't jump, I was just standing and it crushed me. That certainly never happened in 2. They need to do something about the crush collision because it's like the only thing in the game that is nonsensical.
