Dungeons were always the high point of the Pokémon games and now they're gone.
They actually went to shit with GSC.
I remember playing it as a kid and wondering why the fuck there were no trainers in caves and why they were so fucking short, except for mount mortar.
The whirl islands are fucking annoying though.
RGB had fucking mount moon right at the start and it was amazing.

>forgetting the fucking ice cave in GSC
Mt. Moon was nothing. The only reason that was somewhat challenging is because you get there relatively early in the game and usually don't have a full team yet.
theres a containment board for your 1v1 jrpg, fucking manchildren
its called /trash/

Have they really scrapped dungeons? I've heard that (HM) exploration is almost completely gone too. What are these games about now then?
>>389178827
HMs were always terrible. They should have been just items.

Dungeons with trainers and no wild encounters > dungeons with wild encounters only > dungeons with trainers and wild encounters > dungeons with trainers only
>>389178976
I agree with that, but at the same time simply getting rid of it is not the answer.
>>389178827
They're about being railroaded by a very prominent yet badly written narrative and lots of annoying characters.

>Dungeons with trainers and no wild encounters
>dungeons with trainers only
?
>>389178827
Yes, they dungeons are completely scrapped.
>What are these games about now then?
Literally just following a story, going from cutscene to cutscene, and you're not allowed any exploration whatsoever anymore.
>Enter cave at the base of the volcano in Moon.
>Instantly teleport to the summit.

They didn't get rid of it; you just call a specialist Pokemon to do it for you now. It's literally the same as the item idea.

>>389179250
Well that sounds fun. Last game I played was BW2 and although the exploration wasn't perfect, all in all I thought it was pretty good and the series was again going in a good enough direction. Shame it didn't last then.
>>389179513
I'm not sure I understand, can you elaborate?
>>389180206
You just press a button to summon a rented Pokemon out of nowhere, almost anywhere, and have them help you.
saffron tower is always such a fucking chore to get through
>>389180341
Ah. But is the renting restricted? The point of the item idea is that you can plan out in advance when the player will get access to them, so like with HMs you can gradually open up earlier areas. Items could also be given out differently than HMs were, you could hide them in specific stores, connect to side-quests, find during exploration and so on. Well, technically this was an option with HMs as well, but they never really experimented much with it. Separating it from combat abilities though might have encouraged them to relax it up a bit.

>But is the renting restricted?
No. You can stand in a place and get the Pokemon to rapidly flash in and out of existence if you want.
