Was Alice was one of the last few games to have everything set by a config file? Someone found out you could uncap the framerate just by changing a number in an .ini file. You can also unlock the pre-order edition by doing something similar. I feel like in a more modern game this would require straight up hacking.

Rumor goes that movie project was the original American Mcgee's Alice film project that changed hands and owners so many times that it was unrecognizable by the time Disney picked it. Like at some point Marilyn Manson boasted the idea of a "Dark Alice" film and we know he had worked a little bit on the first game. And at some point Sarah Michelle Gellar was rumored to be Alice. Then it was on hiatus for a decade until the 3d Tim Burton movie abortion came out.

If American is going to try the Oz-thing again, he should tap on the Return to Oz movie's strengths and go with the cool bits of his own idea, like stages and worlds based on the other witches on other geographical sides. Making Oz itself edgy would be silly but introducing new, unexplored frightening parts of that same fairytale world would fit it well. Nome King shit in the movie was scary despite the movie still being a rather innocent adventure fairy tale sort of thing. He wouldn't need to create Cowardly Lion into Alice Cheshire cat or anything like that, Emerald City and its surroundings would be the same colorful and whimsical locations people know and love, threatened by new scary evil. Thats a game I'd like to play.

Not to say that wasn't a possibility but let's be honest, a dark re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland is nothing new. I'm sure ever since the Disney version came out that people have been pitching for Dark Alice. Specially during the early 2000's where everything emo and grimdark was popular.
If anything, it's the first thought people have when they think "wondrous tale gone wrong". The book is already a bit fucked up, its not a difficult leap of imagination to go "also blood and mental issues".

He's never been the mainstream darling since Doom, theres no real point even trying. He has a cult following and thats what he's going to capitalize on. Good thing about cult fans is they remain loyal for a very long time while more casual fanboys will forget about you very quickly. That, plus the fact his Alice games have more female fans than what games usually get, back in the day used to crack my copy of first Alice (and later Madness Returns) to all the goth chicks in my class. They loved the hell out of it.

Honestly the main problem with McGee is his new project ideas try to follow some new fad, which he doesn't really have much experience in. At least 2 of his failures Akaneiro and Bad Day LA both tried to try out some new popular genre of games and failed because their mechanics were too bare-bones to support them. I suspect the same will happen for this new "card game" of his. People will buy the cards for the art alone but the game itself won't gain any traction, thats for sure. Honestly he should just stick with first- or third person action adventure with some unique theme to it because thats his most successful stuff and theres not really all that much competition in that genre right now anyway. I mean sure theres lot of indie half Walking Simulator games half-platformers but not too many of them with bigger budgets.

Initially its the most boring weapon but play the game with Nightmare difficulty and you're actually forced to use its ice wall in many sections to stay alive. Also makes the final boss very easy because it blocks everything else but melee attacks.

Nothing wrong with platforming as long as it would've been engaging. Problem with Madness Returns is its not very challenging thanks to your triple jump and the fact you can glide inbetween all those jumps. Makes the platforming very floaty and easy to do, therefore it becomes more of a chore than a challenge. This also happened with the combat when you found the Teapot which was overpowered as fuck.

The point I was trying to make is that, Romero pretty much abandoned the industry since we don't know if he's even working on the cancelled kickstarter, Carmack only cares for technology so he'll work until the day he dies, Tim keeps making new games, new IP's. Yeah, it's unlikely they'll surpass the classics but at least he's trying. Doom will always be Romero and Carmack the same way people don't remember anyone from Monkey Island outside of Ron Gilbert and Tim Schaffer. American keeps hammering the Alice note. It's his cult following, I fully accept that and I also accept the fact that I'm just not part of that following so take my opinion as you will, but his ideas seem to just be "fucked up fairy tale". It has its audience, sure, but it makes me sad when it seems like its the best he can come up with.
Specially from a guy I'd love to see reach higher levels of fame and fortune, a sort of underdog story.
