Sonic Adventure was a good game.

It deserves criticism for its camera, sure, and maybe other things but it doesn't deserve any kind of hate.

No, it was good when it came out and it can still be fun. 2 on the other hand is a chore to play for me today.

Speed Highway is probably the perfect example of a good 3D sonic level.

Multiple ways through the level, can do it fast, a little bit of platforming, and tricks you can do to make it even faster.

In terms of level design:
SA1 > SA2
Adventure 1 feels more like what I would imagine a 3D Sonic game would play like. Adventure 2 just had that extra polish on the gameplay that Adventure 1 needed. I wish there was a mod to tighten the game up some more.

I think 2 is a fairly good game, 1 though I wasn't too impressed with when I played it again recently. The sonic stages were good, though control wise worse than 2, but everything else about it fell flat. Everyone's missions except for perhaps Tails weren't very exciting and the Overworld wasn't anything to write home about.

Yeah yeah yeah it had "Chao garden"... but the races were shitty and confusing and it was the only minigame it had.

SA2 Chao garden was superior in every way, much like the whole game.

It did a lot of really cool things I wish games did more these days, like the excellent hub worlds with secrets and shit in them connecting the levels. It didn't age was well as, say, 3D Mario games did, but it's not nearly as bad as it is often made out to be

It's fine, though it has aged.
I'd like it to be remade in the vain of super street fighter 2 turbo hd remix
