Because those are a 10 years old ideas of "cool weapons", and insanely poorly executed. It has some of the WORST arsenal I've ever seen in a shooter. It does not help that enemies have virtually no blast feedback until they ragdolize on death, which is the reason the the only two weapons that are vaguely satisfying to use are the two that generally tend to one-hit-kill reliably.

God damn fucking me that game was mindboggingly awful. The "cool" grenades that were not only completely ripped off Half-life, but that FARTED instead of actually exploding? And they had the amazing idea to also use them as ammo for a rocket-launcher alternative, even though mechanically they were not the same type of ammo, making the whole thing just absolutely puzzlingly stupid and pointless.

How the fuck did you even play the game? Was it on Easy? The SMG couldn't hit the broad side of a barn past 5 meters. Trying to kill any Combine with it that wasn't already in your face was an exercise in futility. The only times it was useful is when you needed to kill something that was really close to you and kill it fast, and didn't want to waste much more precious shotgun ammo. The pistol actually allowed you to stay behind cover and hit things reliably at relatively long distances, a situation HL2 had plenty of.

This is a major reason people get a huge fucking boner when a dev pulls out all the stops and actually tries to make most of the weapons fun to use and awesome because it's so fucking rare. It always feels like a70/30 split where 70% of the weapons are complete and total garbage and 30% are actually useful.
