Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with this argument. Say you had a long running survival horror series, and a new title in it came out that was a racing game. You might be able to see that it's a really good racing game, but you have certain expectations of the game based on the series it belongs to thus making it a disappointment. Obviously this is an exaggerated example, but you get what I mean.
