Yeah it's pretty fucking great.
The only reason it didn't get a ginormous following was because the release was buggy/unoptimized as shit and left a bad taste in everyone's mouths.

Hopefully the devs learn from their mistake and vermintide 2 is more polished when it comes out.

Total War as a series is very niche, grand strategy is only for people who are really into that kind of thing.
But if you are, it's great.

It's great but relatively dead. Playing as a newbie is also painful since everyone else has been playing this for years

Kinda, but with significantly more emphasis on Melee combat on top of being able to unlock and upgrade weapons and gear.

I like it a lot more than L4D, probably just because of the setting and the weaponry. There's a lot of resource management going on whereas in L4D you pretty much just load up and blast constantly.

Turns out that putting a game in an interesting setting with fun lore is better than just making a zombie game in the modern day.
