What >>389118439 said, but to elaborate: V and VD sacrificed so much to make multiplayer the main focus. Ninebreaker is also just filler and can be skipped. I'd recommend starting with 3, then just going forward to Last Raven. If you have trouble with Last Raven, go try 2/Another Age of the PSX games. You can also start with Nexus, since that is the first to have modern controls.

I never tried the PSP versions, but they're basically the same thing with a few extra parts IIRC. The god awful control scheme was the main complaint. You should be good since you can remap the controls. That applies to all pre-Nexus games. The series had wonky controls for a long time.

Whoever made this image is retarded, heat wasn't "broken" in 3 at all and practically did nothing, Nexus was the game with ridiculous heat mechanics and the difficulty ratings are all completely wrong. Rifles and grenades were by far the best weapons in AC3, AC4 is no faster paced than Silent Line etc
