Reminder that this happened before any other Crossover games that make more sense because Miyamoto doesn't want another Platformer. He even told Ubisoft he'd only allow the pitch if they pitched something new.
It's why we get Sonic at the olympics and rabbids as X-com.
So pitch a franchise to crossover with Mario, but you must conform to Miyamoto's rule and not make it a platformer and you have to surprise him. What do you do?
