Since you're all retarded, let me spell it out for you.
Before microtransactions, game devs eared money by selling copies. The way to sell copies was by making the game worthwhile to buy, meaning it had to have good gameplay (this is ignoring AAA garbage sold on marketing alone). So the devs had to make a good game to begin with, then support the game and keep the gameplay good.
With microtransactions, the devs only need to keep the game good enough to keep people around so they can shill microtransactions, and the bulk of the effort goes into new things to sell via microtransactions. The focus is no longer on making good gameplay, but making good microtransactions.
It is 100% irrelevant what's being sold via microtransactions. Their very existence sucks the quality out of the game.
Keep yelling about how hats are just cosmetic, but realize you're completely ignoring the actual issue.

Cosmetics aren't an issue as long as the game is still being handled properly. They normally have no effect on eachother. What you want to go after is Valve's lazy handling of their products. A good developer can churn out cosmeitcs like crazy while still keeping the main game interesting.

Example: the people behind Terraria, RE-logic, pump out cosmetics constantly. But they care about game quality, and always seek to improve it.
