Sonic Team isn't doing anything new here, just the same mediocre game they've been pumping out since daytime Unleashed.

Unleashed's boost gameplay is the best a Sonic 3D has ever achieved and you cannot prove me wrong.
There's an amazing sense of speed, great level design (if you unironically think it's "boost to win" you certainly haven't played past the first level), multiple paths to take, great graphics, amazing soundtrack... it's a shame how the Werehog fucked the game up and it's even sadder that they gimped the boost gameplay for Colors and Generations.

Everything we've seen so far looks like a straight downgrade from Generations, and the addition of avatar stages will do nothing but detract from the boost levels which are the only decent thing about these sorts of games

Also the aesthetic and story look fucking awful. And not in the cheesy Sonic Adventure sort of way, but in the really awkward 'let's have Sonic dickride the OC every three seconds so 8 year olds can feel good about themselves' sort of way.

Infinite is the only thing I like about it, and even then it's just in a shallow, ironic "it's so cheesy" kind of way

SA1, as bad as it is from a presentation standpoint, probably has the optimal basic story tone for a sonic game if I'm to be quite frank. It takes the threats inherently seriously; but it knows when to have inject levity in order to properly endear the player to the cast and the world.

I'd say SA2's also good in this respect, but it gives off more of an 80s action movie vibe with the corny bits thrown in for a more well rounded flavor, rather than the wholly classic-sonic-turned-3d style that adventure 1 exudes.
