Capping speeds with a mouse makes it feel fucking awful.

The best way to deal with this is to only turn the player's 3rd person model once they've stopped moving the camera for a very short amount of time. (~100 milliseconds)

Another way of doing it for pure autismo realism is to have the reticule be detached from the view of the player and it has to catch up to the center of the screen. The acceleration and the speed cap can be both pretty high so that normal aiming is basically unaffected, but if someone whips around 180 they'll notice that it takes a half second for the character to catch up. I'm sure some games that advertise control realism have done it before, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

The rest would be deciding how high this cap should really be and whether cap of the two platforms should be exactly the same or allowed to diverge.

Also, this applies to the thread topic as well. XIM basically simulates what it would feel like with capped turn speed on a mouse. What it does is fuck up the 1:1 ratio if movement of your aim on screen and a your hand. If you look at the video and pay attention to when I 180, it was really awkward because you have to change your hand speed. It artifically lowers your reaction time and as wrist player who's used to flicking it was killing me.

They have to learn more and they will probably have a lot more fun at it because it doesn't revolve around practicing strafe bunnyhopping as a core skill before they learn other advanced strategies. To go fast you just need to slide down a steep hill and make sure you don't land on the wrong side of the next one. Going fast is already step 1 of fun.

Easy to learn, hard to master. I think that philosophy has got it right.

Yeah, this conversation is kind of a sub-conversation that everyone else is having. But to answer your question, things don't need to feel like Q3, they just need to be competently implemented like Q3.(Counter-strike as an example of a good movement system) They don't need to be fast movement systems, they just need to acurately and quickly reflect the intention of the player.

Most movement systems today act as if you're asking a puppet to perform movement for you, rather than letting you just directly control the movement.

Many developers are staggeringly bad at what they do. The PUBG developers have been trying to implement a vaulting mechanic for about 6 months -- but it's too damn hard for them, so they may just give up. I havent owned a console since n64 but I really want to give up PC gaming (not going to because of certain games, money, and i like to alt tab and watch porn on demand). Theres so much annoying shit on PC. The cheats, the imbalanced specs, people putting dots on their monitors, people turning up gamma/brightness, and all sorts of little shit. People also make a big deal about controllers but they really aren't that bad when you git gud with them. Id manage top 5 many times in Butterfield 4 with my controller on PC and kept up in other games. Also got shit on, but sometimes i get shit on while i use a mouse too as does everyone else.
