Western devs are too up their ass on politics and having the graphics and story be the focal point to where they forget "oh we have to make a game here" and then make the bare minimum mechanics to get you from one point of story beat to the next. That and open world dick riding when nobody feels the need to fill the world with more than copy paste quests.
