I forgot about 0 and Evil within (the first half of the game). REmake and HD I count it as RE 1, Outbreak was MP and Dead Aim it's just to much FPS for me. I really enjoyed Cold Fear, especially its atmosphere and the idea that I am stranded on a boat in the middle of the ocean during a hurrricane. Did not like at all Blood curse, it had almost nothing the originals had for me at a least and although DS 2 could be thrown off because of a little too much action and COOP, the 1st one had that tense atmosphere and isolation I was looking for. A:I is the same as DS 1, just in first person. Origins was the best outsourced SH game and SM showed that there are devs out there who are trying to come up with something new for SH without butchering it like Downpour did.

Should've played the original RE1 first. Play it anyways, it's about 2 hours long on repeat playthroughs and only $5 on PSN (PS3/PSP/Vita). Pick up 2 and 3 while your at it, play that trilogy first, then get Silent Hill 1 and Dino Crisis, play them in that order.
After all that, decide what you like the best, and go on /v/ to ask what order you should play the series in. Remember to play the Gun Survivor games if you choose RE, they have pretty good lore and Gun Survivor 4: Heroes Never Die has the only non-virgins besides William and Annette Birkin.

Where the game really shines is with its ghost story system, where you collect notes about ghost stories in the school and the ghosts start to appear and haunt you. In the original there's shit like old people peeking from the windows that got removed by the developers because gooks got too scared and weren't able to complete the game. I hope they added it in with the remake.

I'm about to start Silent Hill 3 on PC and I'm having a controller problem. It recognizes my DS4 and all the buttons, but it seems like the buttons themselves are assigned strangely (circle is confirm, square is cancel, x tries to bring up map etc) Basically the only things on my controller that seem to be working properly are the analogue sticks

Mmm, do you run a lot? Janitors can hear that from miles away. You're pretty much either walking or crouching unless you're sure the janitor isn't on the same level as you. In the first couple levels the janitors will just move around the first and second floors so you'll have to be more careful and once the third floor and a new wing is opened they can move around more. Also, turn off the lights in the room as they'll attract janitors and will go to the room to turn off the light. Spooky things happen in the dark as well.

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" is a all-in-one fix, that works as a no-cd crack as well. It is included in the pack.
If you use the NEW fix mentioned in the guide, you can use the sh2proxy's EXE as the no-cd crack!

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
If SH3 runs like shit even on a strong PC, check and lower the Rendering Resolution setting.

SH2-4 do not support Xinput gamepads. Either use Xpadder, a DirectInput pad, or just play with KB+M.
You can now see some decent emulator settings for SH1 as well in the guide. If the image of the game does NOT fill your entire screen in fullscreen mode, check your plugin AND GPU control panel's image scaling settings!
Also give the new PGXP emulator a shot for a lot less wobbly PS1 graphics.

Yes, it's a very good game. It starts off a bit heavy with the jumpscares and that turned me off the first two times I tried playing it too. But once you are past the very first sewer area the game opens up a lot and becomes very immersive, especially if you live in northern europe and can relate to the scenery. From then on it just gets better and more claustrophobic throughout, the start is definitely the weak point (probably there to force you to learn combat and dodging).
Just power through the first 30-60 minutes, there's not a whole lot of bad jumpscares after that.

I would recommend that you play the original version rather than the shitty remake, to be honest. I find that the original, while having a few jumpscares, is much more scary due to the atmosphere and tension.
